Possessions and People – Toxic or Tonic? You know, I thought this is the life I wanted. But it is not. Can I start over? Can I simplify everything and find value in what I do have? Sometimes we become so overwhelmed with the life we have built for ourselves, that it can be awe inspiring to discover that material items do not bring long lasting happiness. Is it time to downsize? Can we live better with less? Have you heard of the minimalists? Is it time to focus on fewer items? Owning more does not lead you to finding fulfilment. Searching for happiness should not be hard. We create so much mess and drama around ourselves and maintain such a busy schedule, that we sometimes forget to reflect and focus on ourselves and what we need as individuals, to be content and find internal happiness. The mindless ownership of material items can lead you to lose focus. How did you end up with this much stuff? Does the clutter in your life add to the clutter in my mind? What do you need right now? And who do you need right now? In my book I talk about toxic relationships. Minimalizing your life not only includes focusing on material items that fill your life, but also material friendships that fill your time. Negative, drama loaded, toxic relationships deplete your happiness level and make it difficult to focus on yourself. To focus on your priorities, first look at who your friends are, and what they bring into your life. You should only maintain friendships with people who bring value to your life. Who brings you value?
