He accepted that some people would view him as being crazy or weird. Yet, he clearly understood that others would trust what he shared with them. What worried Al more was how he would feel if he didn’t say something, and then his dream came true. It was a lot of responsibility and he took it seriously. He had learned through experience to keep an open mind.
When he felt that his worrisome feeling grew strong enough, he would usually find a way to share his dream. This often required careful thought. Sometimes he prayed for further guidance. Other times, based on his feelings and timing, he would make contact with the person to ask them how they had been feeling. He was very careful not to alarm the person or scare them. Instead he would make general conversation and find a way to bring up the right questions to help deliver the message in his dream. The most important lesson he had learned was what was meant to be, would be, no matter what. This was one of those times. He would need to approach this situation with ease and not alarm George or Zeke.
“George, since Zeke has had this dream twice, I’d suggest that you call your doctor early next week and see if you can move your appointment to an earlier date.”
Griffen, Zeke, and Cat sat frozen in their chairs. Never in a hundred years did Griffen think that they would be having this type of conversation around a campfire. There was a part of him that was scared and another part of him that just wanted to change the subject. This was actually scarier than any ghost story he could have told. He found it interesting how everything was working out. First Dad tells him he can’t tell any ghost stories, and because he couldn’t, they were now discussing such morbid things. This was too weird.
Grandpa sat forward in his chair. He looked at Al first and then at Zeke. He didn’t like being the center of attention, but he trusted his friend. Al and he knew that his grandson was sincere about his dreams. “Yes, I promise. I will call the doctor on Monday and see if I can move my appointment to an earlier date.”
Zeke felt relief wash over him, “Seriously, Grandpa, you’re going to call?”
“Yes, Zeke, I promise.”
“Thank you,” said Al. He too felt better. He had accomplished what he needed to without revealing all the details. What he didn’t tell them, was when he had his dream the night before, in addition to seeing the white owl and white wolf he had seen a young boy standing over an older man. The man was lying on the ground holding his chest like he was in pain. He did not see any faces, just dark silhouettes. Then his dream ended. Upon waking, he had done what he always did.
He grabbed the paper tablet and pencil that he kept on the night stand, and wrote down these words:
Wisdom; Guidance; Cleansing; Young boy; Man; Heart attack
Al understood very well that nothing happened by coincidence. Everything happened for a reason. You didn’t always understand what it meant when it happened, but if you paid attention, the answer was always revealed. He also understood that many of his dreams were protection dreams. They were not to scare him, alarm him, or meant to share something unfortunate. They were to prepare him for what was going to happen. It was actually a show of love.
Al’s dreams would not explain when the answer would be revealed; sometimes it was a short period of time. Other times, the answer was not revealed until a long period of time had passed. What he did understand was if the dream kept repeating, it was very important for him to pay attention. In that situation, most likely the event would happen in a shorter period of time. Sometimes more detail would be given when the dream was repeated. This was another reason that he wrote down all his dreams. He was able to go back and compare the notes. He would gently remind George in the morning of his promise to them. He was sure that he would not forget, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Someday he would explain all of this to Zeke.
Zeke rose from his chair and walked over to his grandpa and gave him a big hug. “I love you,” said Zeke. “I was so worried about you.”
“I know you were,” said Grandpa, returning the hug. “I love you, too! Now don’t you worry anymore, okay?”
“I won’t,” answered Zeke.
Cat watched as Grandpa and Zeke gave each other a hug. She was happy for the two of them. She was also feeling really tired and wondered what time it was. She knew her body well. It was a well-oiled machine. When she felt a yawn coming on, it usually meant that it was around 10:00 pm, her usual bedtime. She didn’t want to miss any of the conversation, but she knew her granddad well. He had always taught her that people can only absorb so much information at any one given time. From what she had heard, they had reached that point. It had been very interesting. Yawning again, she stood and walked over to her Granddad. “Going to bed,” she announced as she reached to give him a hug. “Love you!”
