Another reason that people are not setting their goals is that they are afraid to fail. As I understand it, we as humans prefer not to do things instead of failing once or twice until we learn. However there is no way to success other than the path of failure. If you are lucky you might succeed in the first try but normally you must fail a few times to learn which way works best. Most geniuses are the ones who are not afraid to fail the most. For most of us, failure is the action you have to learn, which means you have to do it reasonably often. If you are experiencing failure it means that you are in the doing. If you don’t experience failure or success it means that you are standing still.
‘FALL SEVEN TIMES, RISE EIGHT’
- Chinese Proverb
The other reason we don’t do something is because a lot of us are afraid of being rejected. Therefore we don’t want to have goals subconsciously. In other words, when others start making fun of me, I quit. Or perhaps I never even start because I am afraid to have a finger pointed at me. A lot of people don’t do things simply because they don’t wish to be judged. We have to find a way to get beyond other people’s opinion of us.

When I was younger and I started to write my goals, people around me started to make fun of me. It was scary, I admit. I have to say it’s disappointing to be around people that you love or look up to and they are telling you that what you’re doing doesn’t work. They think that you have to work hard to get anywhere and that you must stop dreaming. I followed my coaches and wrote my goals. I didn’t want to become a billionaire. For me, other things were more important, but they too were out of reach. Today, I have manifested them. Those people who pointed their fingers and judged me, now know that I have achieved my goals. Some of them are proud of me, and some others don’t want to acknowledge the reality. Well, what can I do? I believe I have one life and I want to make the most out of it. This following sentence helped me a lot through those times: ‘Tomorrow you will regret the things that you haven’t done more than the things that you have done.’
There was a story that helped me to overcome this fear. The story of a farmer who lost his horse. All the neighbours came and said ‘Oh, poor guy. You must be so unlucky and we know that it sucks, blablabla’, and the farmer said in return ‘Who knows, we will see…’. A few days later the horse came back with a mare. Now the farmer has two horses. All the neighbours looked at him and said: ‘Wow, you are so lucky. It really can’t get better than that!’ but the farmer just said, ‘Who knows, we will see…’. A week later when the farmer’s son was feeding the horses, the mare kicked him and broke his leg. So again all the neighbours came to the farmer and said: ‘Oh poor man he has to do everything himself now, what bad luck has bestowed him, now the work is double!’, but the farmer said once again: ‘Who knows, we will see…’. A few days later, a war started in the country and they wanted all the young men to go join the army. The farmer’s son had broken his leg so he could not join all the other young people from the village sent off to fight. Everybody exclaimed to the farmer that he was indeed ‘Such a lucky man’ to have his son at home. But again the farmer humbly replied, ‘Who knows, we will see…’.
What we gather from this story is that ultimately the neighbours could only offer the famer their perspective from their own limited understanding!
Nowadays I don’t get angry if people say ‘No, it can’t happen’. Or they say ‘That’s a fantasy you’re living in’. For me this no longer gets me down, it motivates me even more. So I say ‘Who knows, let’s see…’ and my eyes are shining.
The other reason that people don’t write goals is because they are afraid to succeed! I understand if you have difficulty understanding this one. We grow up in societies that don’t see success and being authentic as a norm. If you follow the norm and become something average it is kind of ok, but many still carry shame and guilt around succeeding. It is also true of successful people, who often have guilt and shame around their achievements. This is such a contradiction because all we want is to achieve a life of freedom and peace and live in it. And quite possibly we feel guilty imagining that life or even living it. The good news is that it is possible to live your authentic self, in freedom and peace and achieve whatever you want in life. You just have to take the time, feel deeply into what you want and how you want to be. This is truly an amazing way of being! To experience a life that is inspiring and marvellous. Freedom and peace are states of mind and they already exist inside of you.
