Dot asked William if he wanted to eat; he gave her a nod of yes. She walked to the kitchen to get his food. She placed his plate in front of him. William was sitting at the dining room table. He stared down at the food for a while then stood up quickly, threw his plate through Dot’s china cabinet, turned it over, and upset the table. By this time, all of us were crying. Everyone but me was crying very loudly and asking William not to hurt Dot. He turned to us and said shut the hell up. I was crying silently, yes, tears were falling from my eyes too, but anger tears. I was praying in my head for God to stop him. After all, Dot told us God sees everything we do. I wondered about that many times as a child. Maybe he does not like Dot. In my little head I vowed to one day, get him back for hurting Dot. He started towards her, and she pushed past him, running up the stairs; he ran after her, and when she was halfway up, William grabbed her and threw her back down the stairs. Then he came down and picked up Mary’s pink and white Columbia bike and threw it on top her. He started kicking her. She just lay there, absorbing blow after blow. We all thought she was dead.

About the Book
I was now a nineteen-year-old widow with three kids. Not too many people witness a murder. Then return to that same home and be reminded daily about the death of the person who was shot there and later died. Not just any person died there, but your husband and the father of your children. I am so sorry. Even though it was years ago, some memories never, fade. I cried day in and day out; I could not get it together. He died the same way his mother died, gun violence. Remembering how hurt he was when he lost his mother. I was so mad at God and thinking why would he let this happen.
About the Author
In the 1940's and the 1950's men ruled the home in a much different way then households are ruled today. Domestic Violence and marital issues arose. The police stayed clear. If the police did happen to be called on the scene nothing happened because they believed a mans home was his castle and anything or anyone in it was his property. Sandra watched her father beat and mentally abuse her mother with no recourse, She vowed to never fall victim to the abuse she witnessed as a child. Sandra broke that vow as she fell victim and experienced the things she witnessed as a child.
