My approach to meditation is really about filling up with prana while losing yourself in time or space—or becoming infinite awareness. It’s about feeling the presence of divine source energy (DSE), which is what we really are. There is a state of consciousness that I strive for every time I meditate but find quite difficult to attain; it’s called Samadhi. Samadhi is basically a perfect union between the individualized soul and the infinite spirit. It’s also an experience of divine ecstasy, as well as a super-conscious state in which the soul perceives the entire Universe outside of duality. I’ve only been able to experience this state a few times after many, many attempts. It seems fleeting at best. The way I like to go about dissolving my “self” into this infinite spirit, or vast ocean of God energy, or whatever language you want to use, is to close my eyes and picture that I’m just floating in a vast ocean of light. To me it feels like a luminous white-ish light (goldish light if meditating for healing) that is present when I close my eyes and start to go deep into the meditation. This DSE tends to gather around the brain and crown chakra area, just like in my examples of the mushroom shamans thousands of years ago. Then I’m able to pull this energy down into the body and distribute it throughout my chakra system for different purposes. Once again, P. Yogananda called it pranic bioelectricity, which I think is a quite accurate description. In the kriya yoga tradition the portal where the cosmic “life force” that charges the body is the Medulla Oblongata at the bottom back of the head. The crown chakra actually connects to God consciousness and Universal energy as well as being the storage area for pranic energy. The third eye or brow chakra is the higher will center and seat of Christ consciousness. Since most of my meditation work has been centered around the crown chakra I tend to stick with that. The goal of the meditation path is similar to the experience you would have on the plant medicine route. You want to dissolve the importance of the “illusory self” by letting go of all of your troubles—the worries, stress, and struggles of the secular world. This should be easy every time when you remember that none of these problems have any importance anyway: They are all, and merely, part of the cosmic play in duality. You will want your meditation to be as powerful an experience as possible, which can and likely will be more difficult because you don’t have the plant medicines forcing ego-death and personal-spiritual transformation. But the state of freedom from the ego self can be achieved with practice—and as with any kind of practice, you will become more proficient and able to enter states of deep meditation more quickly and easily.
