The Next Day Something is different. I am supposed to see this lady, an OT. She explained that OT stands for Occupational Therapist. Her job is to help me identify sensory activities that will help me feel better at home and at school. She took me to another room and did some tests. But these weren’t like any tests I had taken before. These were pictures and shapes, series of numbers. She even had me get on my tummy and do the “airplane”!!! then stand on one foot. Then she had me draw a picture of myself…What?? She asked me all kinds of questions about myself. How I like smells, noise, touch….. She told me that the teachers and my parents wanted her to see me because of my difficulties in school. She says that they know I am smart, and that they want to help me to feel that way too!!

About the Author
Jeanne is an Occupational Therapist who now specializes in craniosacral therapy. She spent many years working with children with sensory dysfunction, a passion of hers, as she grew up with sensory issues. When she was growing up however, no one understood these sensory differences. It wasn’t until she was in college learning about sensory integration, that she realized Why she was “different”. She was later introduced to craniosacral therapy, and realized that this form of treatment was a valuable approach to balancing the brain and body. This form of treatment goes well with the other methods she uses. She has been honored to work in this field, helping kiddo’s and their families understand why they may function “differently”. The more we understand sensory systems, the more we know why we do what we do. Kids don’t try to push our buttons any more than we want to push theirs.
