Invisible Threads

Looking In

Standing
on the outside
of my life,
looking in
through the cracks
of my awareness,
yearning for
the exquisite knowing
that I belong,
not to someone
but to myself.

Castle Walls

Mine has been
a life without boundaries;
never drawing a line
I merged into you
no space or separation between us.

I have this capacity to love that I
understood as my work in the world,
holding pain and tending wounds, giving
beyond my strength and resources
because this was the way I felt needed
and wanted
and seen.

But the castle walls were breached
and the people poured in and took
what they wanted. I gave.
Willingly.
Until there was nothing left to give.

Resentment and anger
moved in to the empty spaces,
boarded up the windows
and smothered the light.

Only when my body crumbled
and my spirit started to fade,
did I understand I was lost
and began to search for myself.

Stumbling through the darkened ruins,
I realized the one I’d forgotten to love
was me.

Winged Moment

The wind appeared today
In a roaring cacophony
of voices and emotions
from people I haven’t met
in distant places.

Startled awake,
I stand still
and pay attention
to the sudden swell
of life within me.

A wisp of a giggle,
a wail of pain,
the cry of a newborn making itself known.
The rush of love’s ecstasy, warm and soft
soulful longings meet my own.

The sounds and feels of humanity
suddenly brought close
in a gust of wind
for a winged moment
then gone again,

leaving me breathlessly aware
of souls entwined,
each a brilliant thread
finding its place
in the tapestry of life.

The Iceland Poppy

The impossible perfection
of the Iceland poppy
bursting opening
in all her rosy radiance,
fragile petals unafraid
of the sun’s heat
or the wind’s tricky fingers
which could tear her to shreds
in an instant,
she opens anyway
because she must.
