I wasn’t sure if I needed to include text or poems. I’ve included some of both but I guess we can discuss. --MTH Imagine yourself on the balcony of a luxurious cruise ship sailing to the Caribbean on a moonlit night, the only sound you hear is the splash of the ocean against the sides of the ship. So relaxing and calm. Inside the cabin your spouse sleeps soundly. A warm wind beats again your face. I would imagine you might think what a beautiful moment this sounds like and how grateful you might be to experience such a serene moment. But on a winter night in 2014, when I stood in that exact situation, I wasn’t thinking about gratitude, I was finalizing my plans for my suicide. In my hand was a bottle of Percocet. The plan was to take the pills and drink some vodka. This would make be groggy enough to ensure that I wouldn’t have any last-minute thoughts of survival. It was so simple. I’d step up and jump over the rail and plummet to the ocean below. But thanks to my Higher Power, this story is not about suicide, but rather about a spiritual journey from the dark night of my soul to the dawning of a new day of light and hope. This book is about my reflections on a spiritual journey I have taken. It begins with an awakening experience which filled me with a permanent sense of well-being and an appreciation for life. As a result, I believe I have a permanent, heightened awareness and what Steve Taylor, author of Out of the Darkness calls a "sense of connection to nature or the cosmos as a whole, a sense of meaning and purpose and a permanent inner well-being, free of worry or anxiety.” “Soul Seeker, Reflections on my Spiritual Journey” embodies my reflections on such things as mindfulness, spirituality, the soul, faith and enlightenment as I travel forward on my search for spiritual truth and purpose. I hope that my journey and words help you and others to find your true way as well. If you keep your eyes closed and covered, you'll never see the light of the morning dawn. While the long, dark night of your soul may be at an end, you'll only prolong the darkness if you hide in isolation. It's time to wake up and see. --Perspectus When your soul descends into the long, dark night and drags you downward into oblivion, dig deep inside to find your inner strength to rise again. Move closer, not away from your faith. Your Higher Power will bring the light to guide the way. --Perspectus From what I know and see our world is near the brink. Nothing’s like it used to be. Do not know, do not think. Greed spreading like a rash by preachers who deceive, selling God’s word for cash. Who to trust, who to believe? It’s time for us all to awake. Open our heart & our soul to the world we can make with love and peace our role. --Perspectus The more I learn, the less I really know. Too many gods, too many religions I think. Who to believe or trust? Which path to go? Who’s to say the Kool Aid's safe to drink? All I know, is if I seek, my faith will grow and if we all awake, hate and war will sink Perspectu I am a pebble from the sea. Rough unpolished stone. Cast upon the ocean’s shore. My future still unknown I yearn to discover more. What destiny waits for me Brought to land on rising tide, I’m cast from the sea No place to cover or hide. I’m free, alone & unbound Basking in my vanity, but really stranded on ground. Only to find I remain connected to the sea and sky Always loved & protected by God even if I live or die --Perspectus Play the role, act the part from the finish to the start. The outcome’s always known from flesh down to the bone. The soul triumphs in the end if mindful of the love we send. --Perspectus The past exists only in my mind. There is nothing I can change, no action or moment to rewind. This premise may seem strange but if I am mindful of the now, experience this moment in time, I won't ask why, but only how to embrace and know the sublime, that past and future do not exist. It is up to me to see, hear and feel the ‘now,’ to clear away the mist and to know what is fake or real. - -Perspectus She walks alone listening to the sea, hearing the ocean sing and speak. a chant to console, to let things be, bring peace and hope to the weak. She is the queen of tides and time. Our vessel of light, reason and rhyme. --Perspectus Today I raised my arms above my head My palms stretched upward to the sky I calmly remember all the prayers I said that once again, my arms I’d raise high Today, my journey has taken a pause So I can give thanks for divine healing, for kindness, love, peace and … because God has blessed my soul with this feeling Today, I know full well my soul I’ve found. Again, I know the next best step to take Is one that shines my way upon the ground allowing my consciousness to become awake --Perspectus

But in the end, he is confronted and tested with the moral dilemma of the shocking results of a half-century-old murder case. It dramatically reinforces the importance of not backsliding into the “dark night of his soul” and the belief “that without darkness, we will never find or know the true value of the light.” This story transcends one man’s journey to spiritual awakening and connection to a Higher Power and includes such things as mindfulness, meditation, spirituality, the soul, purpose and faith, messages of Mother Earth, love, truth, peace, blessings and sorrows, enlightenment, and very much more.
The book also serves as an inspirational guide for others seeking their purpose in life and the meaning to existence. With clear language, well-explained concepts, this work is agile, easy to read, and full of wisdom from spiritual and metaphysical thinkers of the past two centuries. Perspectus’ reflections look at: humanity’s connection to the consciousness, energy, power, and matter in the universe; that each of our souls make up an even larger godlike consciousness or soul that is and always will be; the presence of a Higher Power within and outside of each of us; the existence of an eternal source of love, compassion, and redemption; and to never give up hope. Proceeds from the profits of this book will be used to fund a college scholarship program for economically disadvantaged students to shine eternal light on a good man struck down by the darkness of another.
About the Author
PERSPECTUS is the pen name of a veteran international communication and public relations professional, with nearly 50 years’ experience, who currently resides in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. In addition, he is a published journalist, author, poet, blogger and cartoonist. He maintains a sense of anonymity, so he can be candid and sincere in sharing his perspective on the spiritual journey he has undertaken in the hope that in some small way his reflections might help others.
