Rufus and The Flying Carpet

So Rufus said, “Carpet, would you please begin, slowly, to proceed up the Meadow, at a steady height, about two feet or so above the ground, gently gaining speed until we are doing about 15 miles per hour and then slow down gradually, as we approach the north end of the Big Meadow and come to a halt near the Big Pine.”
And this is then exactly what happened !
Of course, all the other rabbits started to run as fast as they could along and up the Big Meadow but, by the time they had got about half way, Rufus reappeared and sailed straight past them on the Carpet, heading back towards the Big Oak Tree !
This time, when he came to a halt, he asked the Carpet to rest on the grass.
The other rabbits soon came thundering up to him, puffing and squeaking.
Rufus ‘thought-spoke’ to the Elementals, (the Nature Spirits who look after the Carpet)
“Might it be alright to let the others have a ride ?” he asked.
“Do you mean just for fun ?” came the response.
“Er……, well, yes, I suppose I do.” said Rufus, hesitantly.
“But of course !” came the rather unexpected reply. “The purpose of Life is Joy ! Weren't you taught that ?”
“Not in those words, exactly.” said the now happy Pilot. “Thank you !” he added.
And so the delighted assembly of young rabbits spent the rest of the afternoon taking turns to clamber on to the Carpet next to Rufus and go sailing up and down the Big Meadow, about twelve of them at a time, chortling with glee and chattering all the while.
