About the Book

This is a self-help book centered on a nonscientific approach to the various roles the mind and the brain play in our lives. The basis for the approach is the authors’ research and experience working with patients related to stress management. It is a common-sense text that deals with stress and mindfulness and offers a new way of looking at how we live our lives. In between each chapter, suggestions are included on how to be more present in the moment, more “mindful,” which are designed to supplement the chapter material.

About the Author

The author has an undergraduate and graduate degree in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg University, located in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He worked in the health field all of his adult life. He was particularly privileged to study the mind-body connection under the guidance of Dr. Herbert Benson at the Mind Body Medical Institute in Boston. Mr. Gillespie is the director of the Center for Complementary Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, New York, part of the Northwell Health system. He teaches stress management and meditation, and he also runs the smoking cessation clinic at the hospital. The author also served as an adjunct professor of health and physical education at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey. Mr. Gillespie resides in Middletown, New Jersey, with his wife, Janet. He has three grown children and two grandchildren, with the hope of having more sometime in the future. After reading his book, you will not be surprised to learn that he enjoys the real three Rs—reading, writing, running, as well as photography! In fact, the photograph on the cover of this book was taken by the author.
