About the Author

Lynda Hope always knew her creative gifts were from Source and key to her true happiness. Over 35 years ago, Lynda created the concept for the Creativity Series. It took years to research, illustrate, compose the music and develop the story. The message is just as important today as it was back then. Parents, teachers and society, must encourage children to love and nurture their creative spark, which is the essence of who they are. The art of becoming is extremely expansive and Lynda thrives in this environment. Her strong spiritual roots have connected her to so many opportunities; nightclub performer, illustrator, cantor, chaplain, meditation instructor and wise aging facilitator. She has followed her excitement all her life. Her greatest accomplishment however, was raising two amazingly spiritual and creative daughters, Jody and Cheryl. As a teacher I found “Jackie and Creativity go to School” an excellent addition to my classroom library for my young students and myself. The illustrations are very rich and some of the amusing characters are real and some are shaped by Jackie. Creativity is only visible to Jackie, and Creativity is always by Jackie’s side. All children have very inventive minds and immeasurable imagination and Jackie represents your typical child. Jackie loves to draw. However, Jackie finds school very restrictive with all the curriculum rules…..even recess has rules! He isn’t allowed to draw, only during Art class. With my Elementary Art Education background I know how important it is to incorporate the arts into all curricula. When Jackie decides he didn’t like school, other characters enter his world, Gloom, Despair, Anxiety, Hate, and Fear. Creativity comes to his rescue and brings Courage, Joy, and Happy! The story theme is emotions: all the emotions and feelings our children experience in school and sometimes throughout their adulthood. Parents and teachers recognize the pressures of our current education system on our young children. We need to educate our kids about positive and negative emotions and how to respond to them. These are life long lessons. Many creative instructional lessons can be retrieved from “Jackie and Creativity go to School.” Students love to perform, so a Reader’s Theater with this book is a hit in my classroom. Other examples include impromptu character dramas and scenarios, poetry, writing essays, drawings, and physical exercises to elevate the anxiety of school and home life. As a parent and an elementary teacher I highly recommend this book in your home with your (before school age) children. It is never too early to teach children about honest emotions, and to help them develop emotional intelligence.
