We have all been offered many more Blessings than we may have allowed ourselves to receive. But often we are so involved in our busy rushed lives that we don’t have time to stop, time for ourselves; time to see what the present is offering us.
But it is not a lack of time that prevents us from receiving our Blessings! We first need to open up and be willing to receive them. Our Blessings are waiting for us: waiting for the hunger in our heart to be stronger than the fear in our mind. Our journey through life is a journey into healing – physical, emotional and spiritual; our Blessings are the building blocks along this path. They provide us with nourishment and succour for the journey, helping us to integrate the seemingly fragmented parts of ourselves, showing us a way to connect with our courage and trust, and live in acceptance and harmony, love, joy and peace.
This book of Blessings is a guide for the journey, a blueprint for living your life with greater consciousness, compassion, abundance, and, yes, love. Loving and nourishing yourself is not an indulgence; it is a spiritual imperative! For only by loving yourself unconditionally, as you are, are you able truly to love others, live in caring relationships and nurture the planet.
The Blessings are written simply yet they are profound. Try to read them with an open heart, as well as your clever mind; to reach their wisdom and energy, beyond the words. Each Blessing is both the destination of your journey, and the way you journey. It is important to remember this as you begin to connect with the Blessings; the way that you journey, the intention that you bring to your journey, is the goal. As you go through the Blessings, you will meet many spiritual paradoxes. Trust the gift of the paradox. Don’t try to understand it with your mind. Know that your heart can hold truth that your mind cannot grasp.
This book offers you a portal into yourself, a key to unlock the door; tools to help you uncover, recover, discover, your Blessings; a transformational guided journey into your deepest Self. Know that all your Blessings are inside you – all your Blessings. Remind yourself of this. Again. And again. Call forth your Blessings; receive them, welcome them, celebrate them. Your Blessings are a refuge, a sanctuary, a place for you to gather strength and courage, wisdom and gratitude and love. As you open yourself up to receive them, they
will manifest.
You may, of course, read the Blessings in any order you wish. But the first time you meet them, it is a good idea to go through them in the order in which they appear. This order represents a journey into your Higher Self, into the Divine within you, into the Mystery at the heart of the All That Is. The wisdom of many spiritual paths [for example, the Hindu and Buddhist knowledge of the Chakras, the Christian Sacrament, the Ten Sefirot of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, the Shamanic Tower of Life] all suggest spiritual evolvement, from the basic physical needs of survival to the highest consciousness of immutable truth and our experience of the Divine.
The order of the Blessings loosely follows this pattern. In the early stages, it offers Blessings that may be more easily accessible, such as curiosity, imagination, creativity; Blessings that perhaps you were ‘helped’ to lose touch with as a small child, but are now ready to receive. Blessings that appear in the latter part of the book, such as gratitude, humility, forgiveness, surrender, may be more difficult to receive if you haven’t already journeyed through the earlier Blessings. There are fifty-two Blessings [plus the Joker, that has a special role!]. If you do decide to start by exploring the journey, you may like to stay with each Blessing for one week. This offers you a transformational year of journeying – plus extra time for the Joker! But spend as long or as little time with each Blessing as feels right for you. Honour your own intuition.
You may wish to journey through the Blessings once, or several times, and then choose your own Blessing, open the book at random, or ask to be guided to a particular Blessing. However you choose to work with the Blessings, once you have been on the journey they will subsequently resonate with you more profoundly. Recognizing and receiving your Blessings brings with it profound knowing – and the unpredictable consequences of this. For knowing demands action – you cannot ‘unknow’ something because you do not wish to carry out the action. So, be warned before starting your journey!
Making a commitment to explore and manifest your Blessings, does not give you extra Brownie points! But it does offer a life fully lived and felt and experienced; a life lived in profound joy, love, freedom, and ultimate peace. Manifesting our Blessings reminds us of who we are, all of who we are.
If you wish to undertake the journey of the Blessings, try to make a formal commitment with yourself to do this. This will give you discipline, and carry you through on lazy days, or days when you think you don’t have time. [We can always find ten minutes! If you think you can’t, your reluctance is not due to lack of time – however much it may seem to be – and you might want to look at this.]
The journey of the Blessings offers growing wisdom and compassion, and the recognition that your life is a Blessing. In each of us there is a yearning towards healing, wholeness and peace. Our Blessings are a guide for the journey, expanding our consciousness, connecting us to our Higher Self and to the Source of the All That Is.
The journey into the Blessings is your journey home.
