OVERWHELMED AND OVERSTRESSED The Disappearing Day
Morning. It was morning again. I rolled over just as the alarm sounded. Ugh, that alarm.
Quiet! I needed some quiet…but the house was too quiet. Tuesday! My heart sang for a moment as remembered that it was Tuesday, which meant Bruce had taken Sam to school. I thought of what a great husband he is! Alone! It was the perfect excuse to hit snooze and take another 10 minutes.
I snuggled back under the comforter, glad that the blinds were closed to that annoying morning sun. I woke a second time before the snooze alarm went off. This time, it was panic that woke me. I should have made that follow-up call to Patti yesterday. I promised Sarah a proposal by the end of last month. I’m a week late writing my next blog post!
I cringed as I thought of what would Bruce say if he knew I was still in bed at 9:00am. He had been up and out for almost two hours with that damned early-bird focus of his. It had been three years since we held hands and made that powerful agreement that we were going to have the careers that we love. He was making it happen…traveling across the country to build his architecture client base. Never losing momentum. I was so clear and focused on making my impact in the world back then. What did I have to show for myself? I was starting to think that he wasn’t taking my business seriously.
Wait a minute! Maybe I'm not taking my business seriously!
It was all too much. I couldn’t burden Bruce with it, though. He already had enough going on. I laid my body back down to meditate for a few minutes to clear my mind and calm myself.
You’ve got to be kidding me! Did I fall asleep? C’mon, Florence, get yourself together. The clock confirmed my fears. It was 10:04. Ugh, my bones hurt. It was all I could do to crank my body out of bed. With a moan and over analysis of the wrinkles on my forehead, I rubbed the raccoon-eyed mascara from under my eyes. It was going to be another ponytail-and-sweats day.
Kitchen. Rejuvenating smoothie. Now.
