Teachings of a not so perfect mom 16 As soon as I heard my son broke his arm, I rushed to see him and vowed to be his source of strength.. But as soon as I saw his condition, I burst into tears (another boink boink boink event).. My son may have sensed my breakdown such that even whilst in pain he kissed me as if to say, I'm ok now that you are here, mom, but are you?' From then on, I was amazed that he would bubble about how lucky he is to have a moving trolley bed, how fun it is to be riding on a wheel chair, and how cool his plaster is like Ironman..... So I guess I didn't turn out to be his source of strength, he turned out to be mine ..... My lesson for the day: Parents like us will never be able to shield our kids from all pain and hardships, but if we are able to bring them up to be positive and resilient enough to withstand all storms, then we have planted sunshine throughout their lives....

Glenice Lui owns a label of children’s wear called KandyCrew; runs a retail store; operates Life Skills Centre for Kids, a vacation care; works part time as a senior manager in the IT advisory division of an accounting firm in Sydney; and is active in her church and community charities. She and her husband, Jerry, have two young children, Jenina and Joshua.
