Chapada, Bahia, Brazil... We rounded a corner and before us were perfect stone seats carved by nature. Our guide motioned for us to be quiet and take a seat. He then blew out his lantern and hurled us into darkness. There was no light in sight. Just darkness. I took a deep breath and grounded myself. I was not sure what was coming next. My spirit said, "Peace be still." I knew deep in my soul that something profound was about to happen. I allowed myself to connect with the emptiness and the blackness. Breathing in and out, I opened myself to receive. And then I heard it. Honestly, my first reaction was that some tour agency had flute music piped in for the tourist to have an extra treat during the exploration. I listened deeply and my soul recognized the truth. This was no man-made performance. This was a perfect symphony composed by wind, water and rock! It was God's symphony. It sounded like beautiful flute music. The melody was timeless, eternal. I felt tears of Joy flow down my face. My breathing deepened and I just listened. Here in this stillness...here in this darkness was pure Bliss. I felt honored to be listening to this Divine concert. My body was swaying to the rhythm. I was entranced by the sheer awesomeness of the moment. It was spiritually transforming and I accepted it.

About the Author
Vickie D. Torrey is a counselor, licensed massage and bodywork therapist, writer, mystic traveler and teacher. Her passion for massage and holistic health led her to establish Lighten Up Holistic Health Service, an international health and training agency for both adults and children. She taught massage and movement at Omega Institute of Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, New York. Vickie has also found great joy in working with people who have experienced domestic violence and abuse, teaching them the power of healing touch. While working in a regional hospital system, Vickie compassionately touched the lives of persons experiencing HIV/AIDs, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Polio, ALS and Cancer. That experience led her to specialize in oncology massage which she now teaches nationally and internationally. As an international teacher, Vickie is also a faculty member at Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in Samara Beach, Costa Rica. Vickie lives in Charlotte, N.C. and Ilhabela, São Paulo, Brazil the home of her heart where she writes, teaches and plays. She is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Diarra and Serena. She has written for The Charlotte Post, Medicine & Science In Sport & Exercise, and Massage Magazine.
