Further down the path, Mountain Mouse pointed to leaves wedged up in tree branches and said “There is another house way up in that tree.” The scouts said again “That’s not a mouse house!” Just then a squirrel scurried out on a branch and said “That is my house. I am a tree squirrel and I build my house from twigs, leaves, and grass in the branches of a tree. It is well insulated to keep myself and my family warm in winter. Being so high up in the tree also keeps us safe from those that might harm us.”

About the Book
During a hike on Mingus Mill Trail, Mountain Mouse helps her mouse scouts learn much more than just the history of Mingus Mill. After one mouse scout makes another feel uncomfortable about where they live, Mountain Mouse guides the scouts in not judging the houses where others live. In a full, fun day the mouse scouts learn about different animal homes, taking care of nature, and how mills served an important role in history by supporting the community.
