About the Book
Born into the tragedy of the Second World War, I was born Nov 14 1943, five minutes before midnight. I was holding back to be born at exactly at midnight, that way I could have two birthdays. It was right smack bang just before the big bang of the first atomic bomb during the global slaughter that took the lives of 70 million people. It was a tragic time for humanity and for one mother and her newborn son. My mum Iris Crofts told me that on those terribly lonely nights, lying awake with the world at war and the Japanese on their way to murder us, with her husband overseas and me kicking inside her she wondered what would become of us, her husband, family and country. During this time she would pray and sing songs. Hour after hour, prayer after prayer, song after song. When I was born for the first ten months of my life my mum would do the same thing with me over her shoulder, walking around the house night after night all night, prayer after prayer, song after song. We were pretty close mum and me. When dad came back from the war I was pissed off to the back bedroom with my older brother Michael. Dad quickly went to work to create my beautiful sister Margaret. I have spent most of my life fighting a fear of abandonment and also fighting funny through the study and collecting of humour, comedy and laughter, to get some attention again, and finding a way through humour, comedy, and laughter to prevent a third world war. OUR GRATEFUL SOUTHERN AUSTRALIAN PHILOSOPHY, ‘YOU’VE GOTTA LAUGH MATE’ re-frames life’s many realities into one, FUNNY WORLD. A funny world is a peaceful world; this is Australia’s new story for the 21st century. With the help of our indigenous brothers and sisters we have learnt that life, human nature and the humourverse are too mysterious to take too seriously. In science if you don’t understand something you give it a name, put that together and we call the attitude of understanding something that we don’t understand Funnyism, and that’s futurism. Our Funnyism world family will have the philosophy of a deeply developed, divine, digital, practised sense of humour. Funnyism makes life a loving and laughing matter. Laughmates, let’s stop telling the same old stories, make this the turning point of human history by telling stories that bring people together not divide them. By telling stories of how civilisation merged science and religion and survived, by continuing to develop our sense of humour and anti-artificial intelligence emotions of love and laughter, etc. So we live in peace with happy families. I have been lucky. I am alive and happy today because of the help of my loving family.
