0 - The Fool
New Beginning, Innocence, Stepping into the Unknown
The journey through the Tarot begins with The Fool. Although it is the first card in the deck, The Fool is given the number 0, because it represents the unlimited potential that we all have in our path through life.
The Fool appears as a youth, head held high gazing at the heavens as he is about to step off a cliff. He carries only a small sack and a flower and is accompanied by his little dog who also seems delighted with the journey.
This card portrays a brave leap of faith into the unknown, carrying only the essentials of faith, trust, and enthusiasm. It encourages us to set out on a new adventure unencumbered by the baggage of the past. We are asked to be optimistic, fearless, and trusting that the path we set out on will have a favorable outcome. The Fool invites us to be willing to take a risk with an innocent heart and spirit.
New experiences can be scary and at times confusing because they move us out of our comfort zone. However, without them we can’t learn valuable lessons, test our inner strength, and fulfill our potential. The Fool asks us to embrace the unknown and follow our dreams.
For example, Peter had The Fool come up in the position representing himself in his reading. He verified that it was his dream to start a new business but had fears about past failures. We discussed how the image of The Fool carries only a small sack, symbolizing the need for Peter to let go of old heavy baggage before embarking on his new adventure. He chose to journal about his fears and use EFT to release the negative emotions from the past around failure. He also used affirmations and visualization and read the book, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, listed below. Several months later, he reported back that his business was gaining momentum with new clients coming in—an encouraging sign which boosted his confidence to keep going.
