This project will provide faculty nurse educators with tools to foster self-transcendence that will provide an incivility solution for academic settings in nursing education that is desperately needed and wanted. Going to the very beginning, we as faculty exhibit the behaviors that our students pick up on and mirror. Faculty must take responsibility to treat each other with mutual respect and refuse to fall into uncivil behavior. Beginning with ourselves and taking self-responsibility for the kinds of behavior that we exhibit to each other as faculty, to our students and the community we can begin to see a change and nurse educators can begin to co-create a culture of civility in nursing education that can spread beyond our classrooms and higher learning institutions.

About the Book
Tools to foster self-transcendence in nurse educators are presented to teach the teacher to use multiple intelligences, emotional intelligence, knowing and authentic learning experiences to guide a daily practice of forgiveness, empathy and gratitude. Nurse educators who understand incivility and co-create an environment of civility in their respective workplaces can positively impact their lives and those of their colleagues and students. Nurse educators CAN develop collegiality, through recognition of the efforts of our brothers and sisters by believing in them even when we see them at their worst.
About the Author
Cynthia Keeton Brown, MSN, BSN, RN is currently the Administrator and Director of Clinical Services for Sacred Rose Healthcare. Current interests surround cultivating a culture of civility for nurse educators, leadership studies, mood research, building community capacity and inspiring new nurses to embrace the profession despite its many challenges.
