I SAW AN INFANT

I saw an infant lying there

With dimpled cheeks and golden hair.

I saw her smile which Heaven sent

And then my soul with joy was rent.

I saw a girl child standing there

A ribbon in het golden hair,

She smiled upon a little toy

And filled my soul with sudden joy.

I saw a maiden seated there

The sunlight on her golden hair;

She smiled upon a handsome lad

And suddenly my soul grew sad.

I see my daughter kneeling there

A veil upon her golden hair;

She’s wedded to her handsome boy

Which gives my soul but little joy.

MY LADY

The sky is grey

The rain drums low,

The lightnings play,

The cold winds blow;

And yet I feel the day is fine,

My lady said that she’ll be mine.

The thunder sounds,

I feel the sun.

The snow abounds,

The storm is done;

I’m happy now though cold outside,

She’s standing here right by my side

The sun shines bright ,

The day is cold;

I’m in the light,

The dark enfolds.

My lady said that she and I

Must part until the day I die.

TERRA NULLIUS

Terra Nullius – It’s nobody’s land

There’s no one to hunt in mountains high,

No children to hold a mother’s hand,

No mother to soothe a baby’s cry.

Terra Nullius – there’s no one there.

No one to dance a corroboree.

Search as you will there’s no body there.

That can’t be men on the plain I see.

Terra Nullius – no one to care,

The Kangaroos can leap without fear.

But what is that flying through the air?

I’m sure it’s not a man made spear.

Terra Nullius –an empty land,

Nobody plays a Didgeredoo,

The fires we see nobody has fanned,

Those shadows are not of men It’s true

Terra Nullius –we’ll take this land.

If anyone lives in this vast domain

When we have finished all we have planned

There’s very few who will still remain.
