About the Author
Barbara Abbate has over thirty years of experience in classrooms around the country. She was a teacher, playwright, and director for the American Conservatory Theatre’s Young Conservatory in San Francisco. She was instrumental in the creation of Beach Channel High School, the magnet school of oceanography, the director of the broadcasting programs at Edward R. Murrow High School, and at Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School in New York City. She was honored as a MetLife Teaching Fellow through Impact II Teachers Network, and as a Master Teacher by Rutgers University. Currently, Barbara creates Awareness High School to inspire young people, teachers, and parents to take the reins of their own educational development and seek out alternative ways to learn. Ms. Abbate is retired and currently living in Austin, Texas.
