Chapter Five
Divine Design
The Earth is sacred. She was breathed into being by divine intelligence. Every atom, crystal, drop of water, and magnetic current is conscious, a note in the cosmic symphony of creation.
The earth is sacred because it embodies the unity of the physical and the spiritual, the visible face of the invisible divine.
The earth is not an accidental rock in space, she is a jewel in the cosmic sea, she’s a living, breathing organism, a conscious system where matter, energy, and spirit interweave.
The universe is very intelligent, organized, mathematical and purposeful. Nothing is left to chance. When the earth was created everything for life to exist and thrive was perfectly provided, in nature.
Early humans consumed fruits, herbs, greens, tubers, leaves, honey, seeds and nuts similar to chimpanzees. They ate whatever was available in the season of their region. The vegetation re-seeded itself without agricultural struggle. The earth yielded its abundance and provided complete nutrition for animals and human beings.
Over time humans incorporated meat to their primarily plant based diet. Winter was the time of year for eating meat, root vegetables and stored grain when plant food was scarce or non existent. Those living near the coasts or rivers would have heavily relied on fish, sea food and seaweed.
Diets varied over time and space, shifting availabilities of various foods throughout the evolution of the world. There was no single universal diet. Food sources varied based on location and time. Humans were highly adaptive utilizing a wide range of food based on their environment.
Hunters and gatherers around the world ate diets with wildly different proportions of plant and animal foods and all of them appear to be healthy, protected from heart disease, diabetes and other maladies common in our modern populations.
The one thing that did not vary through time and space, is that the ancient world was undefiled by man.
The earth had a superabundance of life, lush forests, vast marshes and endless seas teeming with biodiversity.
The ancient world was raw power, untamed, and organic.
In the Beginning
When the world was young it had pure water, highly oxygenated clean air, and abundant with plant life.
Humans lived in small family communities spread far enough apart so that they weren’t competing for food and space.
The food they ate came from nature, full of nutrients, enzymes and full of life giving life.
The earth provided for all their needs, their food, shelter and clothing. Even their transportation; they had their own two feet and sometimes animals to give them a ride.
This life wasn’t without effort and work on their part, but the work kept them healthy and strong. The more they worked the stronger they were to survive some harsh environments and situations.
In ancient times we humans were keenly attuned to the heartbeat of the planet. Our survival as a species depended on our ability to live in harmony with the earth. We were profoundly intertwined with nature, its mysteries and miracles.
Times have changed since the beginning of the world.
Technology has advanced.
We have many new foods.
Our eating patterns have vastly changed.
We have new diseases and health challenges our ancient ancestors did not have.
We have poisoned the earth, our food and ourselves with man-made chemicals and altered foods, which are not natural to the earth.
We live in a demanding, expensive, fast paced world. We are bombarded with news of catastrophes across our country and around the world within minutes of their happening, causing havoc to our emotions and nervous systems. We have become addicted to medications, drugs, alcohol and food to cope with stress, calm our nerves, relax, and sleep.
We have become reliant on fast food and devitalized ultra processed food which has been stripped of fiber and nutrition and laden with harmful fats, sugars, additives, food coloring, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and herbicides.
We know this, but our fast paced lives demand fast food and we are trading our health for it. The more refined our food is, the faster our health declines. There is this saying for good reason “the whiter your bread, the sooner you’re dead”.
Most of the people alive today have grown up in this kind of unnatural world and we don’t know how to grow, prepare or cook our own food anymore. Which means we don’t know how to survive and take care of ourselves, on our own, without outside assistance.
Even when we want to break out of the system and change our lifestyle to be healthier, we either don’t know how or we lack the resources, motivation or the fortitude it takes to make such drastic changes to our comfortable lifestyles.
To make sense of this lets go back to the beginning.
