The March to the Armageddon

Religions and religious belief systems have been major parts of mankind’s devotion and experience in living throughout history. Religions have had a powerful influence on individual cultures and the world’s major civilisations have benefitted from them greatly. Since mankind’s natural religious instinct is to worship pagan gods and offer blood sacrifice in temples dedicated to idols, one wonders why the Holy God commanded a large group of people to put their trust in him solely and obey his moral law unreservedly. The history of God’s people has shown that enforced monotheism and command to follow rigid external moral law never remedied ignorance, ungodliness, apathy and vanity in the heart of sinful men. The covenant God made with the ancient Israel demanded full obedience to all his moral law. However, lawlessness became rampant among God’s people and retribution for rebellion became a re-occurring cycle of events in Israel’s history, eventually destroying the old covenant. God offered his people a new covenant to save them, but they rejected it, and mankind moved onto a new trajectory towards Armageddon.The Western European Enlightenment had a major impact on the modern Jewish history. It emancipated the Jews and provided a fertile ground for the emergence of thinkers and intellectuals in many disciplines and laid the foundation of the modern world. A close examination of this period reveals an age where the end time prophesies in the Bible are coming true. The destiny of mankind has been shaped by two powerful forces since the dawn of time. God’s love and good will and Satan’s hatred. Despite man’s rebellion, God has secured a promising future for the righteous. Mankind has no hope of salvation unless the new covenant in Christ comes of age. A biblical understanding of the history of the Jewish people helps to know the story of mankind in its entirety. It is wonder of all wonders that the fate of such a small nation has shaped the destiny of all nations.
