Nathalie learned of her fate that morning. She was to be beheaded the following day for the attempted murder of the girl named Bernadette. Nathalie was told that the girl would fully recover. Nathalie was ecstatic that she had not killed Bernadette however she was to face the guillotine. Later she was forcefully dragged into a room by the head prison guard Corporal Boucher. He had four other guards with him. He laughed at her and said, “We are all going to give you something to remember us by before you lose your head tomorrow.” They all then started to tear her clothes off her. When that was done they forced her face down onto a table. Nathalie screamed out to no avail. Madame Ducharme was passing by, she heard the commotion and went to investigate, she was curious. The woman was naked, she was lying face down on a table, two men held her arms while another man stood at the other end of the table. This man was naked from the waist down his pants were down around his ankles. He had a huge erect penis. Two other men held her legs. The woman was struggling and yelling. The first thing Madame Ducharme noticed was her backside. It had two heart shaped birth marks on her right buttocks. She had not seen those marks for twenty two years. Her stomach constricted. Could it be. She went over and pulled back her hair and saw her mole. Her heart was pounding. She bent down and examined her feet. She saw that her two small toes were webbed on her left foot. It had to be her she reasoned. She looked for the scar on her inner left leg. She could not see it fully only the tail end of it. Then she noticed the bracelet around her wrist. She bent down and examined it. She had seen it before. She was now positive. It was the Queen’s long lost daughter. The man with the erection was watching Madame Ducharme examining the woman. “Do you fancy her yourself Madame Ducharme. You’re a surprise. Well you will have to wait in line because first I going to have her then the boys here want their go. You can have her after that,” said the man and laughed. He then grabbed onto Nathalie’s hips and made ready to penetrate her. Madame Ducharme realised she could not explain to the men what she had just discovered. Plus she had no authority over them. She would have to bluff them so in a stern and authoritative voice she yelled, “Unhand this woman, do not harm her. A misjudgement in justice has been made.” “Well Madame Ducharme, she is my prisoner and I will do what I want to her.” He went to penetrate her. Madame Ducharme saw a broom hanging up on the wall and she quickly grabbed hold of it and smacked it against his head stopping him. She drew blood. She then turned to another prison guard and said, “Quickly go and get the Captain of the guards.” The man did not move. “I said go and get the Captain of the guards, go quickly.” She then went to threaten him with her broom. The guard ran off. “What the fuck are you doing Madame Ducharme you have no authority here. You will pay for this you bitch.” “Don’t harm this woman until the Captain of the guard gets here. Otherwise, your head will come off.” Madame Ducharme stood guard over the woman with her broom threatening anyone who came near. “Your fucking head will come off Madame Ducharme, not mine,” he yelled then he rushed her and snatched the broom out of her hand. “Who is going to stop me now,” he sneered. Just then the prison guard came back in the company of the Captain of the guards. He saw a half-naked man who he recognized as Corporal Boucher with blood streaming down his face holding a broom over Madame Ducharme. “What is going on here?” demanded the Guard Captain.

Nathalie, as a baby was left on the steps of the Regent street Orphanage in London. She had a small silver bracelet on her wrist engraved with her name. In the orphanage she learnt to play the piano she also experienced her first true love with the Irish girl, Cathleen. During her time in the orphanage she also befriended a farmer and his French wife. At sixteen years of age she left the Orphanage to work as a servant with an aristocratic English family. There she tutored their younger daughter Emily on the piano. All went well until the master of the house attempted to rape her. After that she was falsely accused of theft and had to fled to Paris to escape the English police. Emily because of unforeseen circumstances joined her in Paris. Emily loved a stable boy, Nathalie loved a Baron. Both men were beyond their grasp. Fate then had them both accused of a crime they did not commit. Both then faced death by the guillotine. Both girls had to avoid that death at all costs. Their paths would separate under totally different situations in avoiding the guillotine. They then both had to be united with the men they loved. With their personal struggles and triumphs they had to also navigate their way through the French Revolution back to the safety of the shores of England. Would both girls eventually avoid death by the guillotine. Would either of them end up with the man they loved. This is a story of adventure, of miraculous circumstances, of avoiding death by the guillotine and of people seeking love. It’s a story about a common piano teacher and her pupil and best friend Emily. It’s a story of love however both girls would have to kill to survive. Adeline, a French prostitute was the key to that survival. Adeline would also have to kill to survive. Amongst the killings would love triumph.

Geoffrey Powell was born and raised in Melbourne Australia. As a boy he joined the boy scout movement and as an adult he became a boy scout leader. He loved the outdoors and adventure. He has lived in Canada, America and Spain. He has travelled extensively. He has visited the great Pyramids of Giza and seen the wonders of Egypt. Also Canada, USA, South America, Australia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific Islands. He owned and ran a successful business for thirty years. He is married with two children. He is now retired and writes full time in between travelling the world. His passion is sailing. His other passions are skiing and scuba diving.
