About the Book

For years, ideas popularized by The Secret and the Law of Attraction have suggested that if you “act as if” what you want has already arrived, it will eventually appear in your life. While that idea points in the right direction, it is incomplete. You cannot create a life you love from the same identity that created the life you are trying to change. Modern science shows that lasting change is more complex than holding a positive thought or wishing for a different outcome. Real transformation requires shifts in behavior, physiology, and identity. That understanding is what led me to develop what I call The Acting As If Principle. This approach brings together what science, psychology, and lived experience now confirm: the body plays a central role in shaping emotion, belief, and perception. Most of us were taught to wait for clarity before acting clearly, for confidence before acting confidently, or for inspiration before taking action. But the human system works in the opposite direction. Behavior sends signals upward to the brain, shaping emotional states and the stories the mind tells. Change begins with how you move, breathe, speak, and show up in the present moment. Acting As If means behaving as the next version of yourself now, allowing your biology and consciousness to reorganize around that behavior so real, lasting change can take hold.

About the Author

Over the past fifteen years, Michael E. Connor has experienced twelve strokes, a near-death experience, and a serious accident in which he was struck by a vehicle, followed by the long process of relearning how to walk and speak. He also became a father at age fifty. After a twenty-year corporate career working with Fortune 100 organizations, his life took an unexpected and unconventional turn. Through these experiences, Connor came to understand that lasting change requires more than new goals or strategies, it requires a shift in identity. Throughout each challenge, he applied neuroscience-based principles and mental training practices to redirect his life, rebuild his capabilities, and step into his full potential. He now invites readers to spend time with these same tools so they can apply them in their own lives and maximize their unique capacity for growth and transformation.
