About the Book
Money is a tool that in itself could very well be neutral, but the weight society has placed on it has turned it into anything but. The reason is that this tool offers us the possibility of covering everything, from our basic needs to the "luxuries" we allow ourselves. Because of this, it is inevitable that money has the potential to wreak havoc on our relationships, relationships that, in themselves, can already be complicated as they are already deeply tied to our pasts, family histories, and traumas. The book Smart Couples, Smart Finances aims to present a way to return the view of money in relationships to a more neutral realm by analyzing the needs behind the expenses we choose to incur as individuals and as part of a couple. The structure proposed by the author in this book aims to create an approach in which each couple can visualize and establish a reasonable and kind way of distributing money to help each member feel seen and respected and their efforts acknowledged and thanked, so both partners can foster a greater sense of well-being within themselves and the relationship simultaneously.
About the Author
Lorena Varela Flores, born in Mexico City, grew up there until completing her degree in Industrial Engineering at UNAM. However, at the end of her university studies life led her to become interested in Personal Growth, a field which is a core part of her life to this day. In 2000, she married and started working at the Universidad de La Salle Bajío, where she worked for 12 years. It was during this period that, at the suggestion of family members, she wrote the book Smart Couples, Smart Finances, reflecting on her own personal experiences and those of close friends. However, due to a personal decision, the book’s publication was postponed for over 10 years. During these years, though, she completed diploma courses in NPL, Family Constellations, and Bioengineering, studies that gave even more meaning to what she presents in the book. Convinced that money management is a topic few people address, yet it is the root of many problems within relationships, Lorena has now decided to launch her book in hope that what she has to offer can help couples realize managing money can be something that, with discipline, can help relationships be even more enjoyable and fulfilling.
