In the grips of heartbreak, your world might be feeling utterly desolate and barren. If you are clinging on to the hope
that the relationship hasn’t really ended, the sense of disorientation can make you dizzy. You may feel stiff with fear.
Your inner voice may be silenced, trapped within the agonising feeling of loss. And your sense of worth might be
rock-bottom.
It’s soul-rupturing. I’ve been there. I know the pain, oh-so-well.
You are in the right place, my lovely! I’m going to guide you out of this sense of devastation, through healing and into
strength.
But this book isn’t just about ‘recovery’. I don’t want to just get you back to the place you were before. It is about the
transformative power of rupture. You see, the thing I learnt about heartbreak ‒ from my own personal journey into
the murkiest depths of despair ‒ was that, if you allow it, your experience will open up the way for a kind of liquid gold
to seep into the cracks of your broken heart. That gold will fuse into your being, to make you and your life more
magical, more soulful and more beautiful than you could ever have imagined.
If you can go with the flow a little, this pain that has stopped you in your tracks will take you to the depths of your soul,
where you will almost touch a divine sense of your place in the great swirling movement of the universe. Rather than
pure devastation, it can be a profound and life-affirming experience. A fresh wave of your story. You will never be the
same again ‒ you will be more grounded, vibrant and powerful than you have ever felt before.
All of this might be impossible to imagine right now. The way out of this pain might feel like an insurmountable
mountain to climb and far too much effort! That’s where I come in. I’ll be with you, every step of the way. 28 steps in
total. One step at a time. Let’s do this, together!
LET’S GET YOU IN THE RIGHT MINDSET FOR YOUR HEALING JOURNEY
There are a few things I’d like you to keep in mind as you work through this book …
● Healing requires a balance of focus and kindness
You will find that you reap the greatest benefits if you do the exercises in sequence, step by step, and ensure that you
have completed each one before you move onto the next. As you work your way through, you will find that you are
not only healing but that you are becoming an ever-increasingly-radiant version of yourself. In order to keep your
momentum going, my recommendation is that you make a commitment to complete the whole book within a specific
time frame. If you can keep to the rhythm you have defined for yourself you will find that momentum builds and has a
beautiful snowball-like effect, with your healing naturally accelerating as you get further through the process. But you
need to work at a pace that works for YOU and allows you flexibility. If you want to do this in 28 days consecutively
that’s great … if you decide to work through the 28 steps over three months, that's fine too. Remember: always be
kind to yourself! Take your time.
● Healing is an active process
It's really important to actually take the steps, rather than just thinking about taking the steps. True healing comes
from embodied and committed action. It is hard to sustain real change if you have only thought about changing. All of
the steps are carefully crafted and curated to help you weave profound change into your spirit, but they will only work
their magic if you give yourself the gift of committing to fully doing the work. All of the steps are designed to be
bite-sized and manageable because grief requires structure and slowness. You will find that the more steps you do the
more pleasurable the process becomes. Before long, you will start to really enjoy yourself!
● Healing is an ‘iterative’ journey
Change is not a one-stop shop! This book is designed as the beginning of a journey. It will change the course of your
life and turn your trajectory around, from a place of pain and despair into a journey of wildly beautiful discovery. So
don’t be surprised if there are steps within this that you feel you would like to explore more. Think of this book as a
helicopter view on a foundation course of healing. As you work through the book, note down the areas you would like
to commit to exploring more and circle back to in the future.
● Healing is an act of courage
With me as your guide, you can do this. Even if you feel as though you are in the depths of darkness and even if you
can’t see it right now, there is a glimmer of light for you, on the horizon. Allow my words to enfold you and to soothe
you as I take you by the hand and guide you forwards. This is how you start to build a new story and rediscover your
courage and your smile. Oh yes you will! There is hope. By picking up this book, you have already started your healing
journey. Have courage! There’s light ahead.
GETTING GROUNDED: PROCESSING GRIEF
Awakening is not a process of building ourselves up
but a process of letting go.
Pema Chödrön
Have you ever had one of those moments in life when you feel as though you are having an out-of-body experience?
When you suddenly feel as though you are looking through the threads of the fabric of the universe and you suddenly
understand the pattern that cloth is woven in?
That was me. On my knees in my garden, some fifteen years ago. In the deathly grips of the most agonising pain I had
ever experienced: the intense pain of heartbreak.
