MICHELANGELO Let me just ask: “Have any of you ever had trouble explaining the concept of crayons to your children?” Well, let me tell you, that was an obstacle that I thought would never be overcome at our house. I think it was partly my fault because I am a creative person. Before my son was born, I took one of his bedroom walls and painted nursery rhymes on it, with Mother Goose in the center. Now, you would not think that your children pay any attention to you at all . . . but they really do. At the time of my well-intended effort, the girls were approximately three and four years old. They never uttered one word, but little by little things began appearing in full “colormatography.” At first, there were little things like new faces on their dolls. Then other things like walls, and anything that did not move including my toilet seat, begin to be in color. It seemed impossible to break them of this habit.
