CHAPTER ONE
SEE YA NEXT YEAR
Have you ever had a summer that was so horrible and so boring that it made you question the meaning of summer. I used to, in fact there was a time where I almost gave up on summer. Until one summer changed it all. This is my story, my name is Benny Breezy. Don’t ask me what the last name stands for. It will only irritate me. I’m an African American and proud to be one. I’m originally from Iceland, where I stayed with my Grandma Maroochy, who is the best cook you’ll
ever find. And my close Aunt Antiquity.
My mom is a Fashion Designer who divides her time between New York, Los Angeles and Paris. Her name is Conceicao. She barely comes home. Only on the holidays. But we do stay in touch. Now I’m in Seattle where I attend an incredible school called Glass Art along with my close friends. This is a school where only talented and prodigies can get in. Our story begins in the music gallery. The whole school was watching a play ‘The Little Mermaid’, starring my best friend and bro Simon Ford, and my wacky and crazy friend Mallory Styles.
They were playing the roles of Ariel and Eric, where was I if you’re wondering, I’m playing the piano. That’s how I got into this school. I’m a talented Piano Prodigy. However, only my friends and family know this. But I have Stage Fright. I always get nervous in front of people. Plus, I don’t embrace change very well. There’s a part of me, that has yet to show the world what I’m really made of.
I need to believe in myself. Little did I know that this summer would make me believe again. I was playing the piano. As everybody listened to Mallory sing, ‘Part Of Your World’. The scene where Ariel rescues Prince Eric from drowning. Then they were getting to the scene, where Ariel tries to get Prince Eric to kiss her and Simon couldn’t wait, until they get to the end. So he can kiss Mallory.
Unfortunately the play got interrupted, by our archenemy, Garrett Silguero. A popular jerk, who thinks he’s all that. All he cares about is his looks, body and popularity. He’s one of the biggest bullies in Glass Art. Anyway, the doors swung open. And suddenly there was fog everywhere, before we could ask what is going on, Some music was played, and Garrett Silguero and his minions came in. He was singing, Say Something! By Austin Mahone and took over the stage.
After he was done performing, Garrett said, “Listen up my peeps and losers. I’m having a party this summer! Wait, no a mega party. It’s going to be awesome, and why is that?”
When I asked him he replied, “ Because Mr. Nobody “, it’s going to be a pool party in River Pelagia. When he said that, the whole school became quiet . The reason why is because everybody knew
River Pelagia is one of the biggest and most richest neighborhoods in Seattle. “Everybody, look underneath your seat.” Garrett said. So when they did, to their surprise they found a box. However, not everybody got an invite.
So for the ones who did get invited. They slowly opened up there box and when they did, confetti came out along with a bobble head that looked just like Garrett, this is what the bobble head said, “You are invited to my awesome and out of this world party that starts next week. It’ll be a night you’ll never forget. The only rules are, no unattractive people, nerds, geeks or losers. Can’t wait to see your sexy face there. From the one and only, Garrett Silguero.”
After the message stopped, the students clapped their hands. Everybody except for me, Simon, Mallory and Ms. Reba, our favorite Drama Teacher. And the rest of the students, who didn’t get invited. “Out of my way losers”, Garrett said. As he makes his way over to Mallory. He reaches for her hand, and kiss it. “I hope to see you there beautiful.” He walks away after that. Along with his minions. Leaving Mallory there, who was blushing. Much to Simon and me dismayed, she didn’t know what to say. That’s when Dean Dipper came onto stage. Due to an unexpected interruption, the play is over. Everybody back to class, he said while rubbing his head. He had a headache. I was shocked and disappointed. So was Simon, and Mallory just stood there like a statue.
Ms. Reba was upset that all our hard work, and the play was ruined. After the play Ms. Reba told me and my friends and the rest of our classmates the same thing she says to all of her students. “Every year! On the last day of school, some of you I’m going to miss. Never stop dreaming and always believe in yourself. And remember to be creative, inspirational and unique. As for the rest of you, well hopefully, you won’t be in my class next year. She tried her best to hide her aggravation. Especially when Mallory asked her, aren’t you going to miss me? Before she could give Mallory an answer, the bell rang. “Oh thank god. I mean enjoy your summer everyone.” “Well, I’ll see you two in the lunchroom.” Mallory said to me and Simon. As Simon was grabbing his things, I could tell something was bothering him. I asked him, “You wanna talk bro?” “Talk about what? There’s nothing to talk about man, the play was a disaster and Mallory is going to Garrett’s party. So everything is just fine.” He said while slamming his locker. He was heading towards the exit. And I was right behind him until I thought about something, that has been bothering me all year long. “Um! I’ll catch up with you.” “Is everything alright, bro?” “Yeah, I just need to talk to Ms. Reba about something.” Okay! Simon said. He could tell though, something was wrong.
