Introduction From a young age I always dreamt of having this ‘big’ life. I was tired of working for others and having someone else dictate my schedule. But owning a business also required a lot of money and time - two things I didn’t have. So I’d often wonder what the solution was for me. Do I work a job? Start a business? What would be the best way to create an income that gives me freedom so that I don’t need to sacrifice time away from my family? Then a door opened for me - Network Marketing! I’ve always heard about it, but never really looked into it in depth. I just knew that there was no ceiling on how much I could earn and that really appealed to me. But there were a lot of misconceptions about this business model. I couldn’t understand why though. At first glance, all I could see was the brilliance. An opportunity to work from home, on my own schedule and earn a passive income? What’s not to love about that? The only stipulation was that I had to work hard and take daily consistent action, which I was completely okay with. I had no issues working hard. So without thinking twice, I trusted my intuition, jumped in and never looked back! I started dreaming about the possibilities. What if I never have to wake up to an alarm clock again and take long dreadful commutes? Yet, instead wake up ANYTIME of the day feeling excited to design my schedule the way I wanted to – instead of going to a job I hate? What if I can work until 12 noon and then spend the rest of my day at my favourite park with my daughter and not have to ask a boss for permission? What if I can own my dream home and book a spontaneous vacation to Italy without living pay check to pay check anymore? These thoughts excite me to no end… I literally picked up every book on network marketing I could get my hands on. And started listening to CD’s in my car at every opportunity I could. Momentum was picking up in my business as my schedule started getting busier and busier. The more people I shared the opportunity with, the bigger my business grew. My first year in Network Marketing was a horrifying experience though. I only made $3000 the entire year! But I would pick myself back up by saying “it’s a business, Deb. There’s no such thing as an overnight success. It takes time, be patient.” But even with this positive talk, I started hearing negative reactions from people around me. My husband not only started to question why I was still continuing but when I took my paperwork to my accountant’s office, he laughed at me. He told me he’s never seen anyone make money in this industry. Although it was hurtful, I didn’t care. I used it as fuel to keep going. I was relentless. No one was going to steal my dream or tell me that what I was after was not possible. Within two years I promoted to top ranks and was now exceeding any full-time income I had ever made previously at any past j.o.b (aka ‘just over broke’). I was darn proud of myself - because now I had a ‘freedom based lifestyle,’ which I had desperately craved. And I’m proud to say that with hard work, persistence and daily action – YOU can do it too! I will admit though, when I joined this industry a decade ago, I found it challenging to find the necessary business training I needed in order to thrive.
