About the Book

Josephine’s Pouch is a story with a message for children, teens, and adults about a young kangaroo girl who experiences resistance as she struggles to be herself and to receive acceptance from others. The story starts with Josephine at the start of a school year, excited and eager to learn and be friends with her classmates. She soon encounters resistance to her self-expression and tries to change who she is, only to realize that she must be strong, love herself, and encourage others to accept themselves when they feel they have lost their value or are not being heard and accepted for their unique strengths.

About the Author

Free spirited, insightful, and friendly are just a few words to describe this author on the rise. Geneva is a teenager from Southern California who has had a passion for writing ever since she was very young. You can find her soaking up sunshine at the beach; practicing yoga in the park; discovering local, healthy restaurants with friends; or sneaking brief moments to write in her journal during the school day. Writing has always been an escape from the world around her and a way for her to voice her deepest emotions. Geneva was elected class president for her freshman, sophomore, and junior year of high school. In her position of leadership, Geneva realized that girls sometimes struggle to be heard or valued. She wrote this fictional children’s book in response to specific situations in which she felt the need to downplay her femininity and out-of-the-box thinking in order to be considered intelligent by others. Geneva hopes her story will empower others to love themselves and find confidence in their unique strengths.
