About the Book

The Art is Powerful Medicine Coloring Book combines visualization and rhythmic drawing to achieve the meditative benefits, but it also teaches techniques and formal elements of art and art history. I believe that the scores of people who have embraced coloring may be ready to take their experiences to the next level, so I have exemplars and tutorials to guide them. I am already using my pages in my clinical and educational work and find that they provide an extremely accessible, layered experience. Beyond the tutorials, there is an art therapy section called “Directives” and a metaphysical section called “Mind Over Matter.” Create, heal, and manifest through art and coloring.

About the Author

My name is Michele G. Murelli. I am an artist and the art therapist and art teacher at the Wellspring Foundation in Bethlehem, Connecticut, a psychiatric residential treatment facility. I do group and individual art therapy with our residents and teach art to the students who attend our therapeutic day school. I hold a BA from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, an MA in art psychotherapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and I hold a CT professional educator certification in art. I am also a certified mandala assessment research instrument (MARI) practitioner, which is an art therapy assessment that uses symbol and color to map the psyche, reveal what is unconscious, and give direction to the therapeutic work. In 2004, I attended Harvard’s Graduate School of Education Project Zero Classroom to study Howard Gardner and David Perkins’ concept of multiple intelligences and curriculum design through the arts. I live in Litchfield, Connecticut, with my husband, Donald, and I garden excessively. We have a son, Jonathan, and a daughter, Meredith. Jon and his wife, Cailin, gave us two gorgeous grandchildren.
