Jaguar in the Back Seat I was in the Pantanal in Brazil, with sons Ben and Martin, plus Martin’s girlfriend Kate. It was almost sunset and Martin was up on top of a tower taking photographs about a quarter of a mile away. Ben, Kate and I were hanging out in our little bungalow. Suddenly, there was a pounding on the door. It was our guide and good friend Marcelo. He was out of breath, and looked very worried. “What’s up?” I asked. “There is a young jaguar in my father’s chicken coop, and if we don’t capture it, my father will kill it! I need your help to capture it. Then we will put it in your car, and drive off into the jungle and release it!” We all just stared at him. No one said a word. Crazy thoughts started running through my mind like “Can he be serious?” and “Do you suppose we have jaguar insurance on our rental car?” Finally I came out of shock enough to speak. “Could and you please repeat that?” He repeated his request-yeah, we heard him right! Go To the Hindu Temple! I was on my way home from helping out after the 2004 tsunami in northern Sumatra, and I was spending my last night in a hostel in Little India in Singapore. I had just spent a month in Banda Aceh, Indonesia helping with the tsunami relief and I was in an incredible state of peace. I had an early morning flight, and in order to help to realign with “home time”, 12 hours different than here, I decided to stay up all night. About 8:00 p.m. as I was lying on my bed in the hostel, the words, “Time to go to the Hindu Temple” came booming into my head! I sat bolt upright, and in a state of semi shock, “What?” Again the voice, “Time to go to the Hindu Temple”. What else could I do? I got up, put on my shoes and headed downtown to the Hindu Temple. I had never been to this temple, but had seen signs for it, so I located it fairly easily. I took off my shoes, left them outside on the sidewalk and walked in. There in front of me was a row of cement deities all decked out in garish colored cloth and blinking Christmas lights. I sat down in the back of the room in a little chair wondering why in the world I was there. The answer came almost immediately. A little Indian man dressed in a white dhoti entered the temple, and as he walked by me, he grabbed my hand, dragged me right out of the chair, and said, “Come on. We are going upstairs!

About the Author
I have read a couple of articles about ways to determine which career would be best for us. The most fascinating one went like so. You were to think back to the years of your youth and remember those roles that you liked to play when you were four or five years old. The article claimed that the one role that you liked to play best would be the ideal career for you. This sounded a bit crazy, but as I thought back, I remembered the joy that I got from my favorite role playing, making believe I was a photographer. Eventually, my camera broke, and I switched to something else. When it came time to go to college, I decided to follow a few of my best friends and become an engineer and make lots of money. After graduation, I took a job in a paper mill. I received my draft notice and had the option to either get drafted or join the army. I chose the army. After being discharged from the army, I went back to work only to find that the paper mill that I worked in was closing down and most of the other paper mills in the U.S. were laying off employees. My wife and I decided to move to Australia. The Australian embassy assured us that there were plenty of jobs available in the Australian paper industry.
