Be still and you will share all of what you have to offer.” FROM PART 11 The art of storytelling has accompanied us since the earliest times when languages were first developing well over 18,000 years ago. Indeed it may have been a primal cause in the shaping of our languages, for what greater need has mankind but to share its experiences through speech? Throughout history we have learnt and been taught through parables, fables, the ballads of bards and bedtime stories. Every culture carries its own style, mannerism and idiosyncrasy. From the wondrous tales of the Thousand and One Nights that inspired the storytellers in the markets of Marrakech to the bards of county England who carried news and tales of the Crusades on their travels, the stories finally come home to roost under our own eaves when parents and grandparents speak of wondrous lands and distant shores. The spoken or sung word of storytelling has not left us for still we flock to listen when talks are given. Today the audience comes to hear of the speaker’s experiences and success and listen for the direction of the path that was taken, they flock to hear of new discoveries and what these will mean for the future. “If the grasshopper can fly . . . . . . So can I,” the same hope lives with our children. Children adore stories and it is not only for the lack of their reading skills that we read to them, for it is the sound of the adult’s voice, it is the vocal resonance that lulls them into their safe cocoon of security. To calm a child a mother croons. The father’s lower decibel range creates an aura of security and protection. Used wisely, the resonant sounds in our voice create the harmonious atmosphere that engenders wondrous change.

About the Book
For hundreds of years, music has been acknowledged and appreciated for its effect on our minds, emotions, and physical well-being. The generated sound waves in music have the capacity to shatter glass, soothe our minds, stir our blood, or relax us. Quite unconsciously, we use an even stronger form of sound energy every day: our voice. We tune our minds and bodies with the sounds we constantly use in our speech. These sound patterns create either a state of balance and ease or an out-of-tune condition of disease.
Exploring the Sounds in Language looks at the precision with which our speech affects the way we think, perceive and create the circumstances we encounter. This two-part narrative exploration proposes that instead of presenting a body and mind at odds with themselves, we can unite these energies and vibrations to create a centered person who gains mastery of his or her cause and purpose in life and who speaks with the unique individuality of one’s whole being. The opening parable outlines the core principles of the power language wheel, while the second part suggests a society that works with the sounds and cycles of development that lead us forward, toward the attainment of our full potential.

About the Author
Virginia Dowling is a Bachelor of Music in Education and is an accomplished author, composer, artist, and guest lecturer. Her sound work research commenced in 1993, when she was director of OPT-IN Training. The author of motivational books such as The Prophet on the Mountain and The Gathering of Wisdom, Virginia currently lives and works as a music teacher in Queensland, Australia.
