How do we do it?... for what?
Where do we get the time in an already very cramped school day?
Schools usually have anywhere between 6-8 classes per day. If we were to take 2-3 minutes away from every class, we would get anywhere between 12-24 minutes daily to implement this curriculum.
I chose the school that my daughter attends almost solely on the fact that Silence was a daily practice in all grades from preschool to 12th grade. This was not an easy decision. My husband comes from a very traditional Cuban family. He, his sister and all of my husband's nieces and nephews have attended another school, and it was clearly expected by all that my daughter went there as well. This was a hard decision, but one that I do not regret for one second. I know that it has been well worth it.
Why? What is the benefit?
The benefits are innumerable but I will attempt to mention a few.
- Students will discover how to tap into their full potential, their highest self, their highest thoughts.
- The highest thoughts have no limits and it will help them reach their dreams.
- The highest thoughts bring joy.
- Aggression will decrease.
- Concentration increases drastically, which will transfer to having to study less and accomplish more in school, sports, career, relationships, etc.
- Great creators of technology, great musicians, great artists, great film directors, founders and CEO's of the biggest companies in the world, greatest leaders have practiced Silence and followed most of these steps(what do you think of writing specific names).
- Silence promotes neural plasticity. These long lasting changes in brain activity help improve concentration, memory and increases sensory stimuli.

The use of antidepressants has increased by 400% since 1988, and at least one out of every three Americans is dissatisfied with life.

Beatriz Martinez-Peñalver is a psychotherapist, president and CEO of Healthy Connections Community Mental Health Center. She lives in Miami with her husband, a nationally known ER psychiatrist, her precious daughter, a fluffy dog, an exotic toucan and other tropical birds, turtles, many koi fish and a cat. She loves to rollerblade, ski, go boating, scuba dive and ride on her husband’s Harley. Beatriz is inspired by silence and the power it draws.
