Waiting

“You got it!” he shouts excited. “Among other things, but I have no signal!” “It must be the area, to remote!” “Are we gonna do this?” Margo asks sighing. “I think they bought it, so yes, let’s do it,” Bastion replies eagerly. “Are you sure you can get us back to civilization?” Margo asks growing unsure with their plan to escape. “I think so, but if we are going to do this, we gotta go now!” “If Luke was going to take me with him, that means they have that jeep stashed around here somewhere.” “Yeah, I know, But I didn’t see it anywhere around the cabin. Did you happen to find the keys when you found the phone?” “Nope! So which way do we go, ahead of us toward the mountains or through the woods?”

Bastion looks back toward the cabin and scans the tree line. He quickly turns toward the pond and inspects the mountain peeks in the distance. He trying to make an educated guess. “We need to find the trail they came up here on. We can follow that to people, so, it would make sense for the jeep trail to be in the woods.”

Then the woods it is.” She turns to him with fear filling her eyes. She reaches for him and he steps into her embrace.

“Margo, I know this is scary, but it’s either, stay here and see what they have planed for us or make our own way? And I say we make our own way!”

She bobs her head as she squeezes his neck. She needs to feel strength as hers fades. He squeezes her in his strong arms, making her feel safe for a moment. He pulls from her and oddly she feels exposed. Bastion smiles trying to ease her worry as she grins back. She forces herself to believe they are doing the right thing. He slips his hand into hers and pulls. She’s not ready to embark on this adventure, but his momentum lunges her forward towards what will be.
