It Happened on Munger Street

The Journey begins. One day early on, I e-mail Samuel and tell him that my sister recommended a book for me to read about angels. The chapter I’m reading explains that angels are all around us and we can receive messages from them any time of the day or night just by asking them for their assistance whenever we need them. The chapter also stated that our spirit within us leaves our body at night when we’re asleep. Samuel agreed, stating “the spirit is our true nature and our physical form is an alien form”. He said “we are ancient spirits on earth and came into this existence for the adventure and expansion of creation”. Samuel’s reply immediately made me anxious. We are ancient spirits? We came into this existence for the adventure? Expansion of creation? The thought that angels were all around me? It was a power overload for me to comprehend and I email him back telling him so. I found out early on that my anxiousness frustrated Samuel as we started down our spiritual path. He e-mails me back and tells me my thinking is way off (the first of many times). He tells me that if I want to feel better in life I need to stop focusing on dark or negative thoughts and start focusing on what I want in my life. What I want in my life? I have no idea what I want? All I could think of was that I had just come off a 15 year work shift beginning in 1996 when my in-laws first became sick. No one had asked me during that 15 year time span what “I” wanted. I searched my thoughts and they didn’t go anywhere because I couldn’t feel anything within those thoughts. Samuel said “our normal state of being is joy and that angels are light beings of the highest intent and will never harm anyone, only help”. At that moment I heard a term from Samuel that some days worked to my advantage but today felt like nails on a chalkboard. The term? Samuel told me I needed to “chill and trust”. “Yeah”, I said. “chill and trust” means find your “calm” and relax. Yeah, uh huh? Sure. Calm down? Relax? Not in my vocabulary. As a single parent running in every direction 24/7 for years and years and years there was no such thing as “chill and trust”. I reply to Samuel and state that I will need to engrave “chill and trust” into my forehead if I’m to make it on this spiritual journey. Samuel stated that what I needed was a state of relaxation and to stop worrying about my past and/or my future, and focus on the idea of living in the moment. I knew what living in the moment was all about and thought I was already doing it but if I had truly been living in the moment I would have found a way to leave my past behind and yet it was alive and well. Trying to live in the moment sounds easy but isn’t and it needs to be practiced daily. This is something that cannot be forced. If forced, it causes stress and that was exactly what I didn’t want. Samuel told me to trust the process of living in the moment, to trust God and trust angels. We are all infinite beings of light enjoying our physical experience here on Earth. It took me a few days to digest that notion. Samuel and I had several conversations regarding the work that angels perform on any given day and all we have to do is ask for their assistance any time day or night. This process was so new to me and seeing the word “trust” left me overwhelmed. After my divorce, I didn’t trust anyone but me. End of discussion. And now I was being asked by this man that I barely knew to start trusting outside of myself? I will admit, I was doubtful.
