Ella Evergreen loves to play and daydream outside in her backyard. Under woodpecker’s watch, she gathers up rocks to tuck in the pockets of her knapsack. In the back of her wagon, she stacks acorn tops, pinecones, and small branches to use for arts and crafts, as gifts, or to add to her nature collections. As she walks, she hears chickadees, a blue jay screech, the knock knock knock on a trunk by a beak. She taps her finger, starts stomping her feet, marching along to the woodland beat of wings and sweet bird chatter.

About the Book
Ella Evergreen loves to be outside in her backyard. She is also very curious. One day, while having a slice of mud pie at a tea party with her dolls, she begins to wonder about the roots of trees. Where do they go? In her imagination, Ella follows them down into the ground. She ends up in an unexpected place, where she meets a special red guide who has a unique message for her about animals. Courtney Coyne Gurrera is the author of Ella Evergreen. As a child, Courtney loved books and nature, and that love continues to this day. She also enjoys gardening, hiking, yoga, spiritual events, and being with her family. Courtney has a B.A. in English and Spanish, and a Master’s degree in Education. She currently lives in Bel Air, Maryland with her husband, two sons, and beloved dog.
