New German ART of Healing

PREFACE TRUTH BEAUTY HEALTH……….HAPPINESS………LIGHT If only ONE of these is not fulfilled-we need to look for a better solution! When I first read this simple recommendation in 1996, NONE of the big 5 were fulfilled in my own life. At first sight, you would have thought that I had it all! I was at a high peak of my social, professional and economic career: Before reaching my mid-thirties, I had +secured myself the most pleasant and best paid job in town +married a very powerful and wealthy man +given birth to 2 beautiful children +become a funky asset to the stiff Berlin high society. We were enjoying all the benefits of our position: +members of the local exclusive Golf Club +driving a Porsche and Alfa Romeo +flying private aeroplanes + a house in the best suburb of Berlin +a holiday house on the Island of Mallorca +diamonds, gold and fur-coats +expensive travels +extensive social network I really, really had it all! There was only ONE little problem: My body said NO! I will start my narration at this -spiritually- lowest point in my life: I COULD NOT GET OUT OF MY BED! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHAPTER 1 I CANNOT GET UP FROM MY BED! ‘WESTERN PAIN MEDICINE’ IS OF NO HELP! It is a nice Sunday morning. ‘Pre-spring’ – as we call it in my hometown Berlin. My children, in spring mood, have been awake for quite some time and they are getting slightly impatient: Like all small children, they are eager to start the day! My son Konstantin has just turned 5, my daughter Antonia will turn 1 soon. I love Sunday mornings! As a passionate mother, I enjoy these days with some extra-time for my kids. Actually, I love all those little and big duties around the children-I do not even mind the much bigger household---most of the time... How much I would love to get up and prepare the breakfast for my family---but: I CANNOT GET UP FROM MY BED ! Don’t get me wrong here! I do not mean that it was sort of hard to get out of bed after a long Saturday night! I mean: there was NO way to get out of this bed! BACK ACHE! ---------------- The pain is just terrible-despite a very high dosage of pain medication! OK. What if I changed my ways… just a little bit? The pain has time. Ok then… WHY? And HOW am I meant to change? ------------------------- Tied to my bed…I made the first inner steps: LIFE was giving me the opportunity to RE-THINK: Was I still going in the right direction? Was I still “on track”? What about my marriage??? What about my job? What was wrong about it? What I have NOW,…as much as it keeps me CONTENT… Does it match my DREAMS? WHAT are my dreams??? Do I have any at all??? When was the last time, that I had DREAMS at all? --------------------------- Back to ‘my’ Department of Pain Medicine at ‘my’ Klinikum Steglitz. The second patient, who sticks in my mind: An average man in his end forties at this time – with severe backaches. He had had those backaches for 10 years now. So, it had all started in his end-thirties………..like my own backaches. Different to me, he had believed in all those promises of his orthopaedic surgeons. Meanwhile he had undergone several operations, some of them had brought some relief, some did not, most had aggravated the pain. He had not been able to work for years, had been treated in numerous rehabilitation centres...- without any tangible improvements. This gentleman, too, was quite happy with the actual treatment. His new epidural catheter, which was linked to a small infusion pump, was giving him some relief. The infusion pump was infusing opioids. This implant was going to be checked today, dosage, location, possible infections. UNCURABLE! But there are some effective treatments……….. I began to understand. What I was witnessing this morning, was a declaration of bankruptcy of medicine! Would I show up here ten years later, grateful that someone was checking on my opioid infusion pump? This is PALLIATIVE medicine! DISEASE MANAGEMENT instead of HEALING! A total defeat of medicine. A declaration of bankruptcy. I should have known better!!! I will NOT participate in this debilitating nonsense! NOT as a patient and definitely NOT as a doctor !!! There MUST be a different, a better way… ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CHAPTER 2 FIRST HOPE NEURAL THERAPY Neural Therapy! Neural Therapy ??? In my 25 years in the medical industry I have not come across any ‘Neural Therapy’- except very recently at Dr. Mc Daniel’s practice and at the Medical Board seminar. If ‘Neural Therapy’ was any good, wouldn’t I have heard about it earlier? So…what is this ‘NEURAL THERAPY’ all about? --------------------- It will be due to the friendly and safe guidance of our two teachers, that we survived this afternoon. All of us elderly students…we are stunned, speechless, in shock. Needless to say that our young know-it-all is keeping her cool, of course. For the rest of us: What we have been witnessing here, does not fit into anything that we have learnt so far. According to all what we have learnt, this is ...impossible... It cannot work! But…it does. IT WORKS! All of us are experienced and well -trained doctors---nothing of what we all have been learning in all those years, can explain what we have just seen here. There must be an error... BUT: the patient is HEALED! Could the error be ...on our side?? BETRAYAL!!! They have betrayed me!!! I have not learnt anything---in all those years! Why did nobody tell me 25 years ago ??? How many patients I could have HEALED by now! How much happier I would have been as a doctor! How much healthier I would be myself! BETRAYAL! They have betrayed me for25 years now! Well, well, well: Better late than never!!! From today on I will learn how to HEAL........
