“Look there’s a black cat under the Iris bush,” said John to Sally as they walked home from the bus. “Does it have a white space on its face? It looks like Madge. It is! We haven’t seen her all summer.” “Wonder where she has been?” asked Sally. “Wonder who she has been teaching?” “Maybe she just took a vacation. It is summer for teachers! “said John. “Oh, don’t be silly,” said Sally. “Have you been doing what she taught us?” “Well mostly I did the ‘neutralize fear’ tapping. Remember the three spots, tapping about 5 times under the eye, 5th (tender) rib and in the indentation near the collarbone. It sure helped me when I was performing on the stage in acting class.” “Well I did remember the psychological reversal she taught us. I tried to start each day by doing the karate chop. I think it helped me keep pretty calm and I don’t remember mixing up words all summer, like I did when we met Madge,” said Sally. “I haven’t seen much of you this summer. What have you been doing?” asked Sally. “Yeah it was a cool summer. Slept a lot,” said John. “Only one camp this year. Actually, that was interesting. I was a junior camp counselor at the same camp I have gone to for many years. It was pretty sweet being a counselor. What did you do?” “About the same,” said Sally. “Pretty boring actually except for the week my family went on vacation. Well that was pretty boring for me, though. No one to be with except my parents. What’s new about that? So, I did a lot of nothing—watching TV, a little reading. That’s not my favorite.” “Do you think Madge may have something new for us?” “By the sound of it last spring, she has lots to teach,” said John. “Let’s see if Madge is still speaking to us” said John. “Or actually if we can still understand her meowing.” John said as he tried to get Madge’s attention. “Let’s go to my backyard” he said to Madge and Sally. After a little coaching they went into the backyard and sat on stuff that was kept in the backyard. It was a comfortable summer day. Not too hot and just a little breeze to make it mild. “What have you been doing this summer?” John asked Madge. “‘Bout the same,” meowed Madge. “One difference. I have 4 babies to feed.” “Oh my!” said Sally. “How wonderful. Did you say kittens? Where are you hiding them?” “They’re safe in an old unused garage. It’s kind o’ home for neow. Keeps meow busy to take care of them. But they will soon be on their own.” “I never thought of it before. But who feeds you? Do you have a human family?” asked John. “Neow. I’m a vagabond. Life seems to take care of meow.” “Oh, Sally. We should set out food for Madge somewhere. Somewhere that she can keep away from other cats. Where can that be?” “We’ll have to think of someplace. Someplace that is close. Madge is the garage anywhere near here?” “Yes. It’s not far from the school. I found the place some years ago when I had my first litter. No one seems to go there so it seems quite safe. The babies are about to be weaned. So, food would be helpful. We can start lessons today if yeow are ready. We can start with self confidence. That’s an important topic.”
