The Journey Home

After getting married, I started .drinking a couple of glasses with friends now and then. I couldn't drink more than that anyway, as my stomach couldn't take it. How I wish it had continued to be so, as I would have stuck to that couple of glasses. But my body started to get used to slowly increasing amounts.
In those days we loved the nightlife. We went out for entertainment with friends every night. I remember thinking one night in a night club, "I wish morning would never come and we could stay here together and have fun." These occasions were very great novelties for me after having spent the teen years under strict discipline.
I discovered the power of alcohol. I harmonized with my environment much better after a couple of drinks, talking and making jokes like everybody else. Actually, I was a shy person who blushed easily. Nothing made me more nervous than the fact that the color of my cheeks would reveal my shyness. Alcohol also solved that problem. It turned me into somebody else and I preferred to be that second person. The only disturbing thing was waking up in the morning. No, there were no blackouts then, but it seemed as if all the symptoms of "the morning after" were reserved only for me. I really could not get it, as my husband easily woke up early in the morning, took his shower and went to work without any problems. I could hardly get out of bed and it took me a couple of hours to get my act together.
