INTRODUCTION
Over thousands of years, saints, monks, and mystics have claimed to have experienced peaceful union with God or Ultimate Reality. Among these are Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Catherine of Genoa, Meister Eckhart, and Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha).
After practicing yoga and meditation for many years and after mentally ridding myself of all that I had, because I could not tolerate what I had, I too began to experience sublime peace with God.
So, what do I and the mystics have in common, besides this wonderful experience? None of us were married or had children during the time of our mystical experiences.
Siddhartha Gautama left his family and lived in the forest to overcome the passions of his mind. The other mystics were nuns, monks, or members of religious orders.
So, can a busy person with many commitments experience transcendent oneness with God?
To experience this we seem to need to be worry-free, to rid ourselves of everything, or at least have no desires.
Besides this, let's face it. To sense oneness with God you need to separate yourself from other people to a certain extent. But how can you do this if you have a spouse and four children who need your attention?
In my book, Unveiling the Soul: Spirituality in the Dimension of Opposites, I offer a path to experience peaceful, loving communion with God. It is not an easy path. And I am not always able to follow it. But the path is not as difficult as what most mystics have experienced - long periods of suffering.
It seems necessary to first experience a fearful void and cross a dark abyss to emerge from darkness into light. And we do live in a dimension of opposites. To know one extreme we need to know the opposite extreme first.
But I am not going to say you must endure great suffering first to experience transcendent moments with God.
So, can the average person achieve this? We are all capable of moments of peace with God, perhaps in church, on retreat, at the beach, or during some quiet time set aside for meditation.
In my book I offer guidance and teachings based on revelation to help you experience God.
This is how my book came about: I was working on a poem when a voice in my head said, "If you want to write, write something spiritual. " I believe the voice was from my angel guide.
For the next few days I thought about this suggestion, then I opened myself to guidance, and what came were aphorisms in a voice of authority.
In Unveiling the Soul are some of these aphorisms, I expound on others and include some of my own knowledge and personal experiences.
I wrote the book in a series of short or separate passages to encourage you to reflect between passages.
Let us now begin our journey.
CHAPTER ONE
Who, What and Where Is God?
God is the oasis in the desert,
the calm in the middle of the storm.
God is the highest power of the most advanced spirit plane, called Heaven. God is the collective power and consciousness of this angelic realm, a realm of peace, love and joy. God is the Spirit of Peace and Love.
God is not “the universe.” The universe is not peaceful and loving with its exploding gases, colliding meteors, and black holes which destroy whatever enters their gravitational field.
The concept of God as the universe is pantheism, the belief that equates God with the laws and forces of the universe.
God is not both light and dark. There is no darkness on the sun. Think of God metaphorically as the sun, continually emitting light.
The Creator is not the creation, the same as the painter is not the painting. The Creator is the source of the creation, but not one and the same. Since the Creator is not the creation, God is not everywhere, but God is available to us.
If God were everywhere, the entire universe, including planet Earth and all beings on Earth, would be permeated with peace, love, and joy.
Do you believe that everyone on this planet is filled with peace and love?
Think of hatred as filling a space. If a man is full of hatred, he cannot be full of love, therefore, the Spirit of Peace and Love is not everywhere.
If you think God is everywhere and within everything, this means God is the bad as well as the good.
If you think God is everywhere and within everything, and God is good, this means bad is good, or there is no such thing as bad as we know it.
If you believe there is wrong, bad, or evil in this world and that God is not evil, you believe the Spirit of Peace and Love is not everywhere and within everyone.
God’s peace and love is within you when you unveil your soul.
