Once, I was sitting on the sofa watching football with my husband, Ted, when I felt something strange happening in my heart. It was not a feeling of pain or shortness of breath. I felt as though the energy was withdrawing from my heart, like it was stopping.
I turned to my husband. “Ted, get the cuff,” I said.
He went into the bedroom to get the blood pressure cuff, and strapped it onto my arm. We watched the meter as nothing came up.
Then he checked my pulse in different areas. Here, again, there was nothing. He could not feel a pulse at all. When I checked, I could not feel it either.
I remained calm.
“You just keep watching the game,” I said to Ted. He knew me well enough to understand that I would not want him to worry, either. He sensed my calm, and he, too, remained calm.
I focused on breathing deep breaths into my body. It was an automatic reaction for me - I did not even have to think about it.
“I am fine. I am not ready to go yet. This is not my time to leave. I will be fine.”
I reaffirmed myself of the inner knowing that I had. I knew I would pull out of it.
By the end of the game, I felt the energy returning to my heart and coming back to my body.
I asked Ted to get the blood pressure cuff again to check my rate. When he did, everything was back to normal - my blood pressure and heart rate were close to my regular numbers.
This event was one of two occurrences where I felt my life force energy leave my body. In both instances, I kept calm. I did what was second nature to me - I focused on my breathing. I knew that panic would only aggravate the situation. I affirmed my inner knowing - that it was not yet my time to leave. With this affirmation, any trace of fear could be released, and instead, I could direct my thoughts and energies to my body.

Jane Kramer came into this world as a free spirited Irish Gemini. Her Celtic background nurtured her intuition and outlook on life. Her desire to help teenagers led her into the field of guidance counseling. Here as with most things, she followed her heart rather than rules. It was the same way she lived her life.

“Stefanie grew up riding a beach cruiser bicycle around the Jersey Shore before heading off to earn a liberal arts degree at Brown University. She graduated from college and worked a corporate job in New York City for several years, but she soon began dreaming of a change of pace and more natural lifestyle. She picked up and began traveling, first across the country and then across the globe to explore farming and community food systems. She felt inspired by her grandparents' farming heritage and decided to return to her family's roots in Berks County, Pennsylvania. There, she started a small, artisan creamery and continues to passionately promote a local food community.
