A few weeks of no response to a job seeker during the recession would not seem unreasonable to expect, but to me it was proof that I was going to suffer. I was going to end up losing my retirement savings and security. I was going to mortify my family and be a burden on society, or live on the street and wear hats made out of aluminum pie pans and push around a grocery store cart filled with discarded shoes I picked up in the road. I thought, gee, if I have such an active imagination for negative outcomes, surely I could put that imagination to better use and truly pursue my dream of becoming a writer? My Inner Bitch rolled her eyes at this.
