Intuitive Leadership:
Inspiring a New Dream of Earth
By Patti O’Donahue
A Vision from the Grandmothers
The vision I received from the Grandmothers was a call to courageous action. A call to speak my personal truth and to return to the home within my own heart and intangible soul. A nudging to continue striving towards wholeness by expressing the truth that is only mine, and towards the reality of living within a greater mystery where all is one and everything is sacred. A reminder to be at one within my own heart in order to be at one within the hearts of many.
The process of becoming a Grandmother is a transcendental journey into a unique perception of reality. A portal through timelessness that weaves past, present and future generations together into a single strand. The passage of becoming a Grandmother heightened my awareness of my own limiting beliefs and repeating patterns: encouraging ongoing reflection and a courageous heart as I unfolded into further forms of beauty, wholeness and authenticity.
The vision I received from ancient guiding presence, “The Grandmothers” was an invitation for more than just my own truth and authenticity though. It was a call to use my life experience and understanding to support the awakening of intuition within people from all walks of life desiring to learn another way of knowing and a path into the heart.
We live in a time that is overflowing with complex systemic challenges to face and to transform. In leadership terms we are in a time of transition when old ways of being and doing are falling away as they no longer sustain life. It is a time ripe with opportunities to explore and apply new knowledge.
Intuitive leadership is one such model for the new earth we are birthing. Innovation, creativity and intuitive insight are needed on Mother Earth and are forms of divine wisdom that can be nurtured within individuals, children, parents and organizations.
To begin the journey into the mystery of intuition I will share stories from my childhood, into a young woman and then into my greater roles of Mother and Grandmother. Following with an exploration of ancient and modern knowledge and nurturing intuitive leadership.
A Little Girl
I am blessed to come from a family tree with intuitives and healers on both branches, and was fortunate to grow up listening to stories about dreams, insights and voices that spoke from within that were not your own and of knowing without knowing how you knew. In my worldview intuition was a curious gift and not a sign of craziness. You just simply know and accept that you do not know the source of this knowing. Our family never attended church, nor did we speak openly about God or religion. There was however, a shared understanding that a mysterious intelligence existed beyond the individual self and that this intelligence could be trusted for wise counsel.
Guides Back into the Mystery
Our Children & Grandchildren
When my daughter Sascha gave birth to her son Nixon, and my grandson I was once again witness to a repeating pattern within our family system. This little boy had big blue eyes and was another wise old soul. Like his Mother, this child was connected to his dreams, consciously aware, intuitive and highly sensitive to the emotions and energy of the world around him. He was telepathic and at times, I could see he was hearing and responding to the thoughts of the people around him. As his Grandmother, it concerned me that the thoughts processes and mental programming of many adults remained in the unconsciousness. How could a little boy this sensitive maintain his gift in our society?
For example, I was babysitting Nixon one afternoon while his mother was out on errands. He was around three years old at the time. We were busy baking cookies and making a good mess when he suddenly looked over at me and said, “Nan, my Mom is coming we have to go outside and meet her.” It was winter and rainy and cold outside so I said to him, “Nixon your mom is not coming for another couple of hours so let’s finished baking the cookies.” He insisted that this Mom was coming and that we had to go outside and meet her and then proceeded to the top of the steps to gather his boots and to get mine.
I surrendered to the moment and willingly put my boots on as instructed by my grandson. Together we proceeded to walk down the stairs, out the door and up through the back yard to the parking lot in the back alley. At the parking lot we held hands and both peaked down the alley way to look for his Mom’s car which was nowhere in sight. I then said, “Nixie, your Mom is not coming so let’s go back into the house.” I was thinking about the cookies and the cold.
My Grandson turned around to face me and said with absolute confidence, “My Mom is coming Nan. Let’s just sit down and wait for her.” I am still curious and he is my grandson so I say, “Ok” and go and sit down with him on the wooden log curb. We chat for a few moments before I get up to once again peak down the alley. I am just about to say that she is not coming, when I see her car peak up the back alley around the blind corner full of blackberry bushes and nose up towards us. I waved to my daughter and excitedly told Nixon his Mama was here, where upon he jumped up and down for joy and ran a safe distance towards the car.
I was completely amazed by this incident. I was amazed by both by his intuition and by his absolute inner confidence in knowing that his Mom was coming early to get him even though she was not expected.
