Vickie D. Torrey is a counselor, licensed massage and bodywork therapist, writer, mystic traveler and teacher. Her passion for massage and holistic health led her to establish Lighten Up Holistic Health Service, an international health and training agency for both adults and children. She taught massage and movement at Omega Institute of Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, New York. Vickie has also found great joy in working with people who have experienced domestic violence and abuse, teaching them the power of healing touch.
While working in a regional hospital system, Vickie compassionately touched the lives of persons experiencing HIV/AIDs, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Polio, ALS and Cancer. That experience led her to specialize in oncology massage which she now teaches nationally and internationally. As an international teacher, Vickie is also a faculty member at Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in Samara Beach, Costa Rica.
Vickie lives in Charlotte, N.C. and Ilhabela, São Paulo, Brazil the home of her heart where she writes, teaches and plays. She is the mother of two beautiful daughters, Diarra and Serena. She has written for The Charlotte Post, Medicine & Science In Sport & Exercise, and Massage Magazine.
