About the Author
Ever since I was a young teenager, the only life goal I aspired to, was to become a wife and mother. I had no specific career thoughts in my mind. I left school in year 10, aged 15, as I didn’t feel smart enough to go to year 12 or University. Thankfully, my wonderful parents pushed me into business administration for a year of study and I became a legal secretary at 17. By the time I reached 21, I had found my calling, teaching aerobics (fitness classes) from the early 1980s. I was always sporty, enjoying competitive netball and hockey for the social connections. In my late 20s, I began bodybuilding and competing in local events for several years. My love of the great outdoors, especially the mountains, took me to Nepal, South America and Morocco to trek in the high altitudes. I loved horse riding but had a major accident, falling off my horse, over an embankment, at age 27. I was then diagnosed with a benign brain tumour. For a brief moment, my life came to a grounding stop. Thankfully, my tumour dissolved two months later. My neurosurgeon was at a loss to explain the two scans (before and after). I used self-healing techniques and others worked for me in their prayers. This life-changing event expanded my awareness of the miraculous ability of our mind to heal oneself. Not long after this event, I found the right partner for me and soon fulfilled my life-long dream to become a wife and mother. I was 34 when my first son arrived. At that time, I was a well-organised, and energetic woman, but nothing could have prepared me for the motherhood journey I was about to undertake. My husband worked overseas, as an international flight attendant, so I often felt like an exhausted single mum when he was away for days on end. By the end of 1999, I founded MUMFIT, an outdoor personal training company for post-natal mothers in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. MUMFIT allowed me to take my son, to the training sessions I offered new mums. I continued personal training young mums with my first son in his pram. I fell pregnant again soon after and continued training other mums with my toddler in his pram and baby in my belly, up until my second son’s birth. I was then aged 36 in 2000. In hindsight, my self-imposed stress of caring for a toddler in the pram, baby in my belly, outdoor fitness training other mums and feeling like a single mum most of the time, I came crashing down after my second son’s birth with no energy reserves to fully recover from pregnancy or birthing. I was completely exhausted physically, emotionally and mentally. Running on empty is not doable indefinitely. There was a long road to my recovery, learning some hard lessons to slow down my active and perfectionist lifestyle to become a mum who knew when to rest and relax for everyone’s sanity, especially mine. I completed my Naturopath studies in 2012 and a Health Science Bachelor of Complementary Medicine, in 2016. After eight years of studying natural medicine, I felt it was time to offer a comprehensive, easy-to-read reference book looking deeply into motherhood’s emotional health and well-being. I’ve highlighted the topics of fitness, nutrition, herbs and parenting skills that worked for me. As a new mum, you have the power to change the world, starting with you. Your motherhood career can be a wonderful time to rediscover the importance of your self-care rituals. MUMfit comes from a practical and realistic perspective, being a quick and easy read for time-poor mothers. It covers everything you need to know about how to keep yourself well, fit and happy for motherhood, from pregnancy and beyond. MUMfit will inspire you to become a healthy, fit role model for your family’s well-being. MUMfit advocates for the well-being of every family member. Our children are highly evolved, psychically attuned, and carry their innate wisdom for living joyfully and peacefully. Approach their care with great gentleness and love, as they are truly our angels. MUMfit empowers you to connect with your inner wisdom as a mother, guiding you to create a fulfilling and rewarding journey with your precious little ones. Upon my own experience of reaching the motherhood milestone, I became aware of the urgent community need to support new mothers. Enveloped in my passions of adventure, health, fitness and spirituality enabled me to continue my soul life’s purpose of motherhood support. I am now eternally grateful to the universe and all those who have encouraged me, to have reached this point in time to publish this book. I hope you enjoy my little MUMfit book.
