My Name is Mountain is a book that takes the Child on a unique adventure with Nature. The Child speaks to the Hole only to discover that the Hole believes it is a Mountain. When the Mountain explains itself to the Child it becomes clear that it has given itself away while serving its purpose. This is a two-fold mission: we must preserve Nature and we must preserve ourselves. The idea that having limits and boundaries whilst displaying and providing empathy is linked together in this tale of discovery. The message that Nature must be honored in her current state to continue to serve her purpose is communicated through the lens of self and the lens of other. The same message applies in Child Development. It is okay to both serve yourself and other people at the same time. The Mountain becomes the Hole because it so joyfully gave itself away to others. The giving is important but so is the preservation of who the Mountain is at its core. Nature gives us so many ways to learn and reflect on the journey. This book combines the importance of balance in Nature and in our lives. What better time to learn this balance than early childhood? When there is a healthy balance in our lives and in the world, there is peace, harmony, and happiness to be found without limit even though limit must be realized. In addition, the story raises the question of how we view ourselves and how we perceive others view us. Should we allow others’ perceptions of ourselves to have any merit? Should we allow that viewpoint to affect our purpose, goals, and missions? This is an area to reflect upon with the Child. It would be interesting to see how this story can serve as a discussion prompt for the Child and the Caregiver. How would the Child describe themselves and what does the Caregiver observe? It may light up areas where self-esteem can use a boost and the Caregiver can use the building blocks of positive affirmations to be sure the Child is forming an identity as a strong, majestic force of Nature.

The Child who reads this book will recognize that respecting Nature and all its gifts is as important as respecting their own inner nature.

Kelly Anne Manuel is the good kind of contagious. She is an eternal optimist who strives to see the good in all her days and throughout all aspects of her life journey. She has a unique voice that Children respond to because it is characterized by her own actively vibrant Inner Child.
Kelly Anne earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Telecommunications with a minor in Spanish from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She spent her early adulthood in a corporate career and then took time off to raise her son Ryan Michael. When she reentered the workforce it was in the Preschool arena that she flourished.
When she is not writing her books for Children she spends her time creating stories with paint. Both creative outlets allow her to feel that she is contributing to Children in a greater and broader fashion. She loves to tell stories and Children love to hear them.
