Do you have ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease?
Has medication stopped working for you?
You are not alone.
In 1979, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Over the years, all the prescribed medications stopped working on me. Anti-inflammatories, antifungals, steroids, antibiotics - all eventually failed.
I continued to live in constant pain, bleeding profusely, losing weight, feeling life itself flowing out of me, with every drop of blood I lost. I thought I was unlucky, a freak, an anomaly. So, I continued to beg my doctors for a new better medication, but every new medication given to me was eventually failing.
When my doctors finally acknowledged that no medication worked on me anymore, I was totally devastated. They offered to me the only option left in their arsenal - the most radical surgery called “full colectomy", where the entire colon (large intestine) is removed, from the small intestine to rectum. (More on this in the chapter “My IBD story: from dying to living”).
Their reasoning was: no colon = no colitis = cure.
The doctor’s reasoning for the surgery did not sit well with me. I maintained my capacity for critical thinking, even though I was physically exhausted by years of constant pain, continuous bloody diarrhea, debilitating fatigue, and severe weight loss.
I didn’t see the logic of removing an entire vital organ and calling it a colitis “cure”.
If my colon is diseased, there should be a way to fix it, not just cut it out.
Would you cut your head off if you had a headache?
So, against my doctors’ advice, and to their complete surprise, I refused surgery.
I still remember having only one recurring thought:
“There must be a better way…There must be a better way…There must be a better way…”
My doctors, having no other options to offer, gave up on me.
But I didn’t give up on myself. I decided to find a better way to stop my suffering...to find a way to keep my beloved colon, or... die trying.
As you may have guessed by now - I didn't die.
For 30 years, I searched for knowledge on how to deal with this chronic debilitating disease. My own suffering with IBD motivated my scientific research and professional clinical experience as a holistic nutritionist in a very personal way.
I found a way to heal myself.
That is how The Flare Stopper™ System was born; I created it to share my knowledge with my fellow IBD people.
This system worked not only for me but for many of my patients that I’ve worked with in my clinical practice.
Later in this book, you’ll find the whole story of my sickness and recovery.
Yes, RECOVERY. And that is FULL RECOVERY from this so-called “incurable” sickness. It took many years, plenty of suffering, painful mistakes, and a ton of money.
Happily, I am now totally cured. And I know: if I did it, so can you.
This book is for those like me, and the many clients of mine, who stopped responding to medications. This book is for those who might feel like they’re at the end of their rope.
Believe me, I know how it feels when you’re not living, but rather, existing day to day... in seemingly endless pain and debilitating fatigue during disease flare-ups. Or, during those ever-shrinking remissions, living in anxiety and fear of not knowing when your next flare will strike. And when it does, I know what it’s like to feel completely hopeless and horrified, realizing that your next “best” medication does not work for you anymore. Oh, I know how it feels, my friend.
Life may seem very dark to you right now.
But I am here to show you the way to heal your gut. As both a patient and a healthcare professional, I’m in a unique position to understand your pain and struggle. If you are anything like me, seeking an alternative and natural way to heal yourself, this book is for you.
Conventional medicine couldn’t heal my IBD; this is more common than you think.
I discovered the statistics about the glaring inefficiency of conventional treatments for IBD.
Here are 3 shocking facts, as described by the highly regarded Mayo Clinic:
1. More than 33% of patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease will not respond to initial drug therapy, and about 60% of people who initially respond to drug therapy stop responding over time.
2. A certain number of people with ulcerative colitis develop a reaction to sulfasalazine and mesalamine, which results in worsening of colitis related symptoms, including more diarrhea, bleeding, and weight loss.
3. Patients who fail to respond to medications may develop intestinal fibrosis, which can result in stricture formation. Over 50% of Crohn’s disease patients have intestinal obstruction during their life, which often requires surgery. Up to 30% of patients with ulcerative colitis will require surgery over their lifetime.
Know this now - this doesn’t have to be your fate.
Full restoration of healthy gut function and a flourishing life can be yours.
