I'm trapped in something gross. I'm trying to get out but I can barely move. Aieeeee! What is that earsplitting noise? It's Leslie, a volunteer at the Raton Animal Shelter. She's screaming. Barbie, another volunteer, hurries to me, a tiny moving blob, stuck in a mound of doggy poop. I can feel Leslie and Barbie staring at me. What am I doing here: I struggle to move, but I'm too weak. I need help. I'm scared, dirty, smelly, and wet. My lifeline to my mother is still connected to me, but I don't know where my mother could possibly be. Barbie thinks maybe I'm about an hour old. She gently lifts me up, wraps me in a towel, and begins to clean my dirty little face. As the poop is wiped from my eyes, I know that I am safe!
